Parity Drive is Disabled

Ok I just put in the new card hooked it all up and started up the server checked, repair the filesystem for each drive and made a new config. Parity is running but it says its going to take 73 days. in the process of writing this one  of the disks is showing errors during the parity sync. Am I missing something? how do I fix the error is the drives are good? or are they bad?

ATA errors on disk9, looks like power/connection problem, that one is connected to the onboard SATA, replace cables and try again.

Parity Sync is about to complete with no errors. as far as adding back the other disks, will I need to create a new config again? or add a new blank disk and start transferring data to the array?

If you want to keep their data you need to do a new config, if they are empty you can add them to the array as new disks and they will be cleared.

i tried adding a disk with a new config but the disk said it was unmountable /unknown file system, but before hand i was able to mount the disk and view its contents.

Is there a way to run a filesystem check on a disk that isnt mounted, meaning prior to mounting so that I dont run into these error when trying to add a disk and run a parity sync after the new config?

Does this mean this Parity sync will be no good?

Post new diags.

Disk7 mounted after the new config, bu then there were a lot of read errors, they look more like a power/connection issue, replace cables and try again.

is there a way to check a disk for error while its not part of the array?

You can run an extended SMART test but the disk looks OK.

But the server will require to be in maintenance mode right? and when a drive gets disabled there no way to re-enable besides rebuilding the drive?

For what kind of error? Filesystem errors with xfs_repair? Just run the command manually

  • Author

just noticed that the Unassigned Devices plugin has the option but what would the command be to run it manually?

  • Community Expert

Do you you want to check if the disk is OK physically or the filesystem? They are two different things, for the former run an extended SMART test, for the latter assuming it's xfs:

xfs_repair -v /dev/sdX1

i have the new LSI card installed and I'm trying to add my disks again but the GUI is so laggy. after i get the login: prompt at the server it take about 5 minutes to get to the GUI login screen. Then to start the array in maintenance mode it take another 5 minutes and to stop the array it take about 5 minutes.
