Transfer files between unraid server & synology at 10gbe

I am hosting my unraid on a system that has 4 Ethernet ports, 2 10gbe & 2 1gbe.  I have a synology that also has a 10gbe port (as well as 4 1gbe ports) that I would like to link to my unraid server via 10gbe so I can transfer files between the 2 as fast as possible. 

 

I currently have the unraid server & synology connected with their 10gbe ports to a pc via a 5 port 10gbe switch. The unraid server & synology are also connected to my main network via their 1gbe ports. 

 

I know I could mount each server to a pc and transfer files between them using windows as an intermediary but then I get reduced speeds. 

 

I set up a NFS share within unraid and was successfully able to transfer files between unraid & synology but at 1gbe speeds since I believe they are connecting via the 1gbe home network.

 

What would be the best way to get max speeds? Is there a way to force NFS using the 10gbe port or is mounting both servers on a pc the only option?

You can use the UD plugin to connect to a remote share, use the IP of a 10GbE NIC on the Synology (assuming the Unraid 10GbE is also separated from gigabit).

I set up a share to my synology using the 10gb ip address, then set up a share with my unraid to the 10gb ip address. I attempted to copy a files from my synology to my unraid and the speeds were about 110 MB/s.

 

when I copy files from my pc to synology using my pc’s 10gb nic I can copy at over 300 MB/s. 
 

my unraid, synology, and pc are connected to a tp link 5 port 10gb switch. Everything in the chain is 10gb and the 10gb mic is only connected to those 3 devices.

 

I cannot get fast transfer speeds from my unraid at all and I am at a loss why.

Have you tried running an iperf3 test between the two machines to check what network speed you are getting in each direction?

 

On the Unraid side are you writing to the parity protected array or to a pool device?  If the array then that is about the maximum speed you will get because of the way Unraid handles writes to the array as described here in the online documentation accessible via the Manual link at the bottom of the Unraid GUI.  In addition every forum page has a DOCS link at the top and a Documentation link at the bottom.
