best way to move/add/remove drives on the array without losing data?

Recommended Posts

hello, I was wondering how do i move some of my drives without losing data?
so, I want to remove the 2tb drive and I will be adding a 16tb drive. so I was going to move one of the 8tb drives from the party to the slot of the 2tb drive but I don't want to lose that data off of the 2tb drive, so is it going to automatically transfer the data or do I have to do something different? the 16tb drive will be a party drive and i was also going to transfer the other 8tb drive at some point so the 16tb drive will be the only party drive.

I did look at this but im still not sure how to do this: https://docs.unraid.net/unraid-os/manual/storage-management/#adding-disks

To rebuild disk1 using old parity2 first you need to remove parity2, you can do that by unassigning parity2, start array, stop array, only now you can use it to replace disk1.

so when i try that it does not allow me to turn the array back on. unless i need to check the "Yes, I want to do this" option?

so i did the new config. so do I got to wait until the Parity-Sync is finished and then stop the array again and switch the 2tb drive slot with the 8tb drive?

also if i just have the 16tb drive as the parity drive(only the 16tb drive as parity) if 2 drives fail would the parity drive be able to run both drives or only one?
