VolzanIT
hello, i have 2 driver fault so tecnicaly all my data is lost, a driver is in his place in array configuration but not recognized, the fun thing is that the disk 4 continue to trow error so i decided to replace it past weekend but after the reboot of the server the situation is this, windows can read the disk that unraid cant Quote Link to comment
itimpi
Note that the red 'x' against a drive does not necessarily mean it has failed - just that a write to it failed so it is no longer in step with parity. Far more often than not the drive is fine and the write failure was caused by an external factor (e.g. stat or power cabling). The best way to check out the drive is to run an Extended SMART test on it. You should post your system's diagnostics zip file in your next post in this thread to get more informed feedback. It is always a good idea to post this if your question might involve us seeing how you have things set up or to look at recent logs. Was there any data on disk3 that you want to try and recover? Do you still have the drive that was in that position? What is the state of you backups (if any). Good chance that most of the data can be recovered if you still have the disks that were disabled intact. Quote Link to comment
VolzanIT
the 4rth disk is disabled but work and i can't reenable it dont know why, the disk 3 instead isn't read in unraid but on widows i can read it, attached in this comment there is the diagnostic file nas-diagnostics-20240212-2016.zip Quote Link to comment
VolzanIT
I arguing if the is a way to say to unraid to read from parity 1,2,4 disk so i can add another parity disk and after data replace the 2 falling of from time to time Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
No, that's not possible, single parity can only help with a single failed disk, you can still use the remaining data disks, but if two disks are really missing/failed you won't be able to use parity to recover either one. Quote Link to comment
VolzanIT
the disk 4 is working only have some read error so it was disabled by unraid but the data are there, but unraid dont allow my to start paritywith that disk Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
You can try this but it will only work if parity is still valid, also recommend replacing the SATA cable for disk4 first, since there are a lot of UDMA CRC errors.: -Tools -> New Config -> Retain current configuration: All -> Apply -Check all assignments and assign any missing disk(s) if needed, including the new disk3, replacement disk should be same size or larger than the old one -IMPORTANT - Check both "parity is already valid" and "maintenance mode" and start the array (note that the GUI will still show that data on parity disk(s) will be overwritten, this is normal as it doesn't account for the checkbox, but it won't be as long as it's checked) -Stop array -Unassign disk3 -Start array (in normal mode now) and post new diags. VolzanIT
the error was there because my cpu was 100degrees because the cooler was broken now it should be allright so start with 3 data disk will rebuild all the data splitted in these disks? Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
Overheating CPU should not disable a disk. 6 minutes ago, VolzanIT said: now it should be allright so start with 3 data disk will rebuild all the data splitted in these disks? Not sure what you are asking, but you can follow the instructions above, even if it doesn't work it won't make things any worse. Quote Link to comment
VolzanIT
Quote Overheating CPU should not disable a disk. sure not but it can trwo error because of the termal throttling i think Quote Link to comment
