As I understand it, the /private directory is created as Unraid is being installed as a part of the boot process. (Unraid is completely reinstalled on a RAM disk every time the server is restarted/rebooted!) The file secrets.tdb is generated during this installation using the information in the smbpasswd file on your Unraid boot drive. The smbpasswd file is updated as you add users (or update the information) on the USERS tab on the WebGUI. Quote Link to comment
