Graaulv Posted May 25 Posted May 25 Hi there This may have been thrashed to death and back again but: Do cache/parity count under 6 storage devices ? As in: I have 5 data drives and 1 parity drive. As I understand the FAQ then these make up the 6 devices, and if I want redundency by using 2 parity disks then I have to go up 1 tier in license Am I right when believing that pool devices are excluded from the license device count ? Asking because I want to buy the right tier of license, and yes I know, I can buy the lifetime license and be done with it Quote
trurl Posted May 25 Posted May 25 All assigned disks count, and unassigned disks that are connected when the array is started also count. Unassigned Devices connected after the array starts are not counted. Quote

I know I am not a springchciken but, let me see if I have got this right: Parity drive, 5 data drive and a cache drive, that means I have exceded the minimum tier license or Quote
bmartino1 Posted May 25 Posted May 25 (edited) Yes you are over 6... Per picture, you have 8 devices connected as storage to unraid. the 8th device is your unraid flash drive. (the flash drive doesn't count towards your total # of attached disks. In the past, one can add disks as individual via the unsigned plugin. Unsigned disk. Now its total # of attached storage devices. So you are right at 7 devices. With the old basic key system your over adn would need the next tier for 6-12..., with the new key system your over. (Originally, starter was only going to be 4 devices.) Per Unraid: https://unraid.net/pricing Starter license: Attach up to 6 storage devices Edited May 25 by bmartino1 forgot to count parity... Quote

There was no point in the past that I can remember where Unassigned drives that were present at the point the array is started were not counted. You can use the Unassigned Devices plugin to temporarily mount drives beyond the limit (e.g. for backup) but they need to be removed again before the next time the array is started (typically after a shutdown or reboot) to keep within the licence limit. If you are over the limit you will not be able to start the array. Quote
