MRA45 Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 I recently took the plunge and bought the components for my UnRAID server. I assembled the components and they all appear to be functioning, but I am unable to boot into UnRAID. I configured the OS using my MAC according to the specifications in the wiki, but when I attempt to boot into it all I get is a flashing white cursor in the upper left hand corner. I believe it is either an issue with the BIOS setup or the OS configuration. I am really at a lose as how to proceed. Here is a list of the relevant components. MB: ECS| A885GM-A2 (V1.1) 880G AM3 R CPU: ATH II X2 255 3.1G AM3 RT FD: 8G|LEXAR LJDFF8GBASBNA R Any help would be greatly appreciated
jtech007 Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 I had the same issue on the first few try's to start it up. I believe you need to go in to your bios and make sure the boot order is set to have the USB Stick boot first. Every bios is a bit different as to what menu selections are needed but mine was under the boot tab. -J
MRA45 Posted January 4, 2012 Author Posted January 4, 2012 Thanks for your reply but I'm still at a lose. I have tried everything I can thin of and it still does not seem to work. My motherboard also allows me to select the boot device in a temporary fashion. When I select the flash drive it still results in the same issue. If anyone knows the correct BIOS setup for an ECS A885GM-A2 motherboard I could use the assistance.
ixnu Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Since this is a virgin rig, I would try to somehow boot the machine to any OS. Sometimes Unraid can be a little tricky the first time. You could try a different USB OS like http://www.pendrivelinux.com/ just to make sure. Or you could try booting from a DVD drive using a Live disk (like http://www.linuxmint.com/download.php).
joshpond Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Try reinstalling the OS on the usb, It sounds like either the mobo isn't picking up the usb as the boot device or the usb is not bootable. Josh

MRA45 Posted January 6, 2012 Author Posted January 6, 2012 Thanks for the help every one. I managed to get it working this afternoon. For some reason using unetbootin on my mac was not creating a bootable drive. I have a Windows XP virtual box running on my machine and reconfigured the USB drive using the Windows XP. This solved the issue and allowed me to boot into UnRAID. Thanks again for your help and suggestions.

I hated waiting for several tb's to clear, but moving BR rips over is well worth the wait.
