Power failure, no longer connects to network

Featured Replies

We had bad storms roll through Omaha last week and our power was off for a few days. Since then, I've been unable to access my Unraid server. Weirdly, the docker containers that I assigned specific IP addresses, like Plex, I can get to (though they apparently can't get to the network, as the shares don't appear to be working as nothing plays). In syslog, I see messages like this:

Aug  4 04:33:50 Vitalstatistix rsyslogd: omfwd/udp: socket 5: sendto() error: Network is unreachable [v8.2102.0 try https://www.rsyslog.com/e/2354 ]

I tried adding a new network card, and I tried rolling back to a backup, but neither worked. The backup made it worse, as I could no longer connect to the Plex instance.

The dual onboard nic is bonded. Booting to the GUI doesn't work; I never get that display. I can get to the command prompt.

Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot or what to do here?

No, I cannot access it. I can't ping the address, either (nor from the firewall). From the command line, I can't ping anything.

Syslog has entries like this in it:

Aug 10 04:43:01 Vitalstatistix root: Fix Common Problems: Error: Unable to communicate with GitHub.com
Aug 10 04:43:01 Vitalstatistix root: Fix Common Problems: Other Warning: Could not check for blacklisted plugins
Aug 10 04:43:07 Vitalstatistix root: Fix Common Problems: Warning: Missing DNS entry for host
Aug 10 04:43:07 Vitalstatistix root: Fix Common Problems: Other Warning: Could not perform unknown plugins installed checks
Aug 10 04:43:07 Vitalstatistix root: Fix Common Problems: Error: Old version of SSD Trim Schedule
Aug 10 04:43:13 Vitalstatistix sSMTP[6217]: Unable to locate smtp.live.com
Aug 10 04:43:13 Vitalstatistix sSMTP[6217]: Cannot open smtp.live.com:587

I can get to the Plex server (docker container), running on a separate IP address (10.20.69.30), but it doesn't appear able to access the file shares as nothing will play from it.

This is probably a stupid question but have you assigned the server's  IP address (10.20.69.10) as a static address on your router?

Another thing to try is to reboot the network switch.

EDIT:  Two more things.

First---  Do you need an iv6 address?  (Most US citizens do not require it for their home networks.)

Second---  Have you tried booting into the GUI mode using monitor/keyboard attached to the server?

I rebooted both the switch and the firewall. The firewall (pfSense) does show the lease as active, but I can't ping it.

I can't ping from the switch, either.

Try booting into the 'Safe Mode'....

UI is reachable in safe mode.

As I recall, this means you have a plugin problem.  I have never had one of these--- knock on wood!   I have no real suggestions at this point but one of the other fellows who are participants should have some ideas on how to proceed from here...

Most likely, uninstall or disable all plugins, then reinstall one by one to see if you can find the culprit.

How do I uninstall or disable them from safe mode? There aren't any listed. Or do I just rename the config/plugins folder?

you can rename all the *.plg files, leave the folders for now.

Haven't figured out which plugin it is yet, but disabling them all and re-enabling them one-by-one was the solution. Thanks!

clarify not re-enabling them all at once

For reference, it was the Tips & Tweaks plugin. I can't remember the last time I changed anything in that, but maybe a recent update was the culprit. I don't think I need it, so I've left it uninstalled for now.

You might want to post this info up in the support thread and see what advice they might have....
