Minisforum BD790i / BD790i SE Mainboard

Featured Replies

Hey everyone,

Has anyone tried running Unraid on the Minisforum BD790i or BD790i SE motherboards?

Specifically, I'm curious about:

Hardware compatibility: Are there any known issues with the onboard NIC, SATA controller, or other components?

Driver support: Does Unraid have good driver support for the Ryzen 9 7940HX/7945HX processors and the X670E chipset?

Stability: Have you experienced any stability issues, such as kernel panics or random reboots, while running Unraid on this board?

Performance: How is the overall performance of Unraid on this platform, particularly for NAS use cases (file sharing, media streaming, etc.)?

If you have any experience or insights to share, please chime in! Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,
I am also considering using this motherboard. How does unraid support this hardware? Will 610m work properly on jellyfin?
Thanks.

I've just fitted one of these this week.  I was using an old 8th gen intel i7 laptop before.

Up and running with 64GB of ram.  No Nic issues as yet, I'm getting full 2.5gb.

These don't have SATA so I'm not sure of if were talking about the same motherboard, Here's the link to mine.

No stability issues as yet, for HBA I'm using a LSI SAS3224 in the x16 slot.  Longest uptime so far is 3 days (no crashes or lockups) but I've been performance testing so lots of load.

Transcodes/AI I use a 4060TI in an adaptor in one of the M.2's so I can't speak for the onboard M610.

As for performance it's very fast, a ton of headroom for VM's, and all the docker you could want.  I don't even have turbo enabled so am limiting to 2.4Ghz per core.

I've completed a burn in with it enabled and maxed at 75'c, Disabled not going above 50'c on full load.

Currently running a Parity check with 6 older SAS drives 1.5GB/Sec total transfers CPU usage is 3-4% with 9 dockers (inc plex) and a windows VM running.

The only issue I have with it is the temp monitoring is not great for reporting, but that's a known issue.  I've got it working monitoring the 2 CCD's in the CPU each of which has 8 cores, this was easy enough by enabling corefreq.

Got questions or want me to check something ask away, happy to try and help.

Great! Thanks for sharing, how did you manage to get CPU temps? I tried with the plugin but it doesn't find the temp using the sensors auto discovery.

BTW which m2 to sata controller exactly? Based on ASM1164? ASM1166?

I'm using the coretemp driver.

What the average speed over the nvme adapter?

I ordered this one: https://www.digitec.ch/de/s1/product/startech-adap-startech-4-port-m2-to-sata-adapter-card-kontrollerkarte-47861180?supplier=406802

Seems to be based on ASMedia ASM1064

But i have read on some reddit posts, that this one should also work: https://www.digitec.ch/de/s1/product/startech-com-sata-pcie-controller-8-port-storage-controller-17703987

Is there a way to force this? mine will NOT find any drivers at all, and manually typing "coretemp" did not do anything.

Hi All

Been running this little monster of board with two NVMe drives as well a LSI 9400 16i in HBA to a Back Plate 16 Port works like a charm ..... just wondering if any one tried the bifurcation and managed to get the 8x8x to work via PCIe Spitter was trying to fit a 10GBe Nic as well as the HBA card each one seen when on Port 0 of this two spitter but not found a way of seeing both

Many thanks

Bannie

I've tried to get bifurcation working on mine. Tried 2 BIOS it's not appearing.

Mine is the AMD Ryzen™ 9 7940HX-BD790i SE.

Could you post you board model/revision and bios version?

Any special bios settings?

I've got 2x 2tb U.2 drives I'd love to get on it.

Currently rocking an LSI 9305-24I on the PCIE and a Nvidia 4060 ti (transcodes/Local AI) on a m.2 to PCIE adapter.

I knew they could do it but never found it in the specs.

Anyone else having issues with Windows 11VM's with this board?  Its been a right pain in the A**e for me and just hangs using a 6600XT I put in the system
