October 24, 20241 yr hi, is this still a valid procedure to decommission a drive ? https://docs.unraid.net/legacy/FAQ/shrink-array/#the-clear-drive-then-remove-drive-method haven't found anything non-legacy to shrink an array my drive is empty (cleared it out with unbalanced ), just want to confirm if these steps still hold
October 25, 20241 yr I'm planning to remove a 6tb and replace it with a 12tb. I'd like to shrink before adding/replacing. I'm not helping at all, but I'm most interested in the answer. MrGrey.

You would typically just rebuild on the new drive, not shrink then grow again. https://docs.unraid.net/unraid-os/manual/storage-management/#replacing-a-disk-to-increase-capacity

October 26, 20241 yr Community Expert 1 hour ago, jbrodriguez said: only one If you only have parity1 then it can be done quickly as the drive slot is not part of the parity calculation (whereas it IS for parity2). On that basis you can: Use the New Config tool and select the option to retain all current assignments Return to the Main tab and reorder the array drives to the order you want Check the Parity is Valid checkbox. This will stop Unraid rebuilding parity (despite the warning which ignores this checkbox) Start the array to commit the new assignments If you have any User shares that have entries for the Included (or excluded) drives change them to match the new drive assignments.
October 29, 20241 yr Author question, i cleared another drive, only i just copied data, didn't move it. can i start with dd right away, or should i format it/delete file first ?
October 29, 20241 yr Community Expert As long as the data is not important you can use dd right away.
