November 2, 20241 yr I'd like to know if anyone has managed to connect to unraid from the filemanager system in Windows? So, not a virtual machine on unraid itself, but windows 11, from you main computer (desktop). There seems to be fundamental differences between older windows version and windows 11. I'm a total noob that really likes the idea of a server. I still have my free trial, but it will expire within a week. I would really like to set it up, cover the basics enough so I can get the paid version. But right now, I'm mostly frustrated how hard it is to get things working. November 2, 20241 yr Community Expert Yes this works. Try to access a public share. If you have problems with that then we need to consider your network.
November 2, 20241 yr Author Thank you Turl, I may have been more forthcoming with the things I've tried. Let's just say: if I don't continue with unraid, and have to get my windows settings back to the way things were... I most certainly went from public (default in windows), to private, to public again. The most recommended is 'private', which, as a word, doesn't make much sense to me, but that's what I have right now. If it's my network, then I might as well wait for my new provider, because I will change provider the next week.

Yes, but if you are using the latest Windows 11 release (24H2) see here: https://forums.unraid.net/topic/177975-formatted-my-pc-and-installed-fresh-windows-11-now-cant-access-smb-shares/?do=findComment&comment=1478526
November 2, 20241 yr Community Expert Here is a link to setting things up to work with both WIN10 and WIN 11. It may look a bit difficult but there is a lot of Info on how SMB/Samba work: https://forums.unraid.net/topic/110580-security-is-not-a-dirty-word-unraid-windows-1011-smb-setup/ 35 minutes ago, Merel said: I don't continue with unraid, and have to get my windows settings back to the way things were... I assume you are talking about In Windows going to Settings >>> Network and internet. What 'Public' refers to a connection in a public place-- think Airport, coffee shop, etc. 'Private' refers a network which has controlled access-- think your home LAN, your corporate LAN, etc. (Public-- by default --has more restrictions on access to network services and devices than Private does.)
