bump?  any thoughts?

  • 2 weeks later...

Thanks Peter for great plugin! Got it working with PIA after a bit of tweaking of the .ovpn file as per other users.

I was finding that the plugin was writing "status /tmp/openvpn/openvpn-status.log" directly after "auth-user-pass /boot/openvpn/password.txt" like: "auth-user-pass /boot/openvpn/password.txtstatus /tmp/openvpn/openvpn-status.log" and getting the same error message as adamrobles was getting.

inserting an extra line after "auth-user-pass /boot/openvpn/password.txt" seemed to fix this... :o

Thanks again!

I Will take a look, I'm also need to change the plugin to /boot/config/plugins soon .

New version on first post! plugin is now moved back to /boot/config/plugins. so it's works with upcoming plugin manager.

Please report any issue you may have.

The plugin is made to use one ovpn and one CRT file, you have 2 CRT files, that is the issue now, all other provider only have one CRT file. , can you change to PIA? What is the web address to your provider?              I will look into this bur can be hard since I don't use this provider, BUT I'm working to get this plugin to connect to. VPN server as well, that might solve your problems,

anf this is not righy on your ovpn file

#route 192.168.3.0 255.255.255.0auth-user-pass /boot/config/plugins/openvpn/password.txt

the auth-user-pass /boot/config/plugins/openvpn/password.txt shall be on one line, please remove or better add your original ovpn and try again, I like to see if its on a single line, your provider will not work with this plugin

what version of plugin are u using ?

New version: 2.7.8 it's now only use the ovpn file, keep all necessary files in /boot/openvpn, the plugin only read the ovpn file when it shall connect, I working on a solution to read in several ovpn files so it's can be selected from a drop down list.

New version: 2.7.10

New GUI, based on OpenVPN server plugin, also a new function to disable using username / password, this is good if you going to connect to a OpenVPN server where is not needed to use login information, and it would not either update your ovpn file with login information.

I have installed the plugin no problem.  The plugin says that its running and Everything seams to be working. How can i really know that its working, how can i be sure its doing what its supposed to.

Telnet to your unRAID server and do a tracepath to a web site:

tracepath lime-technology.com

Compare the results of tracepath when the VPN is disconnected.  If the VPN is working and your not excluding the site you are testing the paths will not be identical.  The path without VPN will include your router/ISP in the hop list.  I've had the plugin report the VPN up and running yet traffic was not going to the tunnel.  I had 'tun1' in the ethernet config view and 'tun0' in the interface list as reported by the plugin.  Not 100% reliable plugin yet so be cautious and check the paths.

When I checking the new asignbed IP i use this command

curl -s https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/pages/hide-my-ip/  | grep "IP Address:" | grep -Eo '[0-9\.]+'

But if you see 2 interface, that is something I need to look at, can you send me your ovpn files, so I can have a look, I'm thinking of to update the plugin so the plugin update the ovpn with either using tap5 or tun5

Maybe some ovpn have

dev tap

or

dev tap0

or

dev tap1

or

dev tun1

Right now the plugin force to use either tun0 or tap0
