OK, emulated disk1 mounted.

Go to the User Shares page, click Compute... for your new lost+found share, and post a screenshot.

Or you can just tell me what it says in the Size and Free columns

That's not good. Looks like all of the 1.7TB of disk1 is in lost+found.

In Main - Array Devices, click on the box with the arrow at the far left next to disk1 to browse its contents.

Does it have anything in it except a lost+found folder?

  • Author

No, unfortunately, it is just "lost+found"

lost+found contains the files that repair couldn't figure out. Often folders and even files will just have numbers for names. The linux 'file' command can sometimes determine what kind of contents a file has so you can figure out what application to try to open it with.

You can browse it in the webUI and see if you recognize anything. If you want to browse it over the network you probably have to share it by clicking on it on the User Shares page and set its Security settings.

Maybe more trouble than it's worth, I'll let you be the judge. The disk still needs to be rebuilt if you want to keep its contents.

We can try some more with the original disk as an Unassigned Device, but I'm not sure if it was working well enough, or maybe it was just the USB enclosure that wasn't letting the SMART report through.

Do you have another USB enclosure?

Do you have backups of anything important and irreplaceable? Parity is not a substitute for backups. Plenty of ways to lose data besides a failed disk, including user error. Unraid probably could have recovered the data using parity if you had asked for advice before doing anything.

I will probably keep a backup of this data for what I do not already have a backup of.

Do I just stop the array and assign the disk for this?

No, unfortunately, I do not. I may pursue this in the future, however...

Lesson learned. I will reach out next time.

Again, thank you for taking the time out of your day to help me with this. It is very appreciated.

Yes

You could try check filesystem with that enclosure. I just wanted to see SMART report for the disk to see if it was really bad.

Enclosures that support UASP are better.
