April 17, 201214 yr Hello, Because we don't know the size of the future hard disk drives, I've asked to me the maximum size of one drive recognized by the software ? Because for the moment hard disk drives are around 2-3 TB but next year if I want to add 4-5 Tb drives, is the software will recognize them, or will I had to wait for a new revision of it ? Similary is there is a limit for the entire volume : 10 20 30 50 or 100 TB Thanks
April 17, 201214 yr To the best of my knowledge: Entire Volume = 1 parity + 20 Data Drives. I know several are using 3TB, think some have tried/tested 4TB drives, so all 3TB would = 60TB, all 4TB would be 80TB 3 & 4 TB drives would need to run one of the 5.x beta versions. Main thing to look for in determining which to use is what controller(s) you are using. I have both M1015 & the MV8 so I've stayed on 5b11.
April 17, 201214 yr The support for larger size drives was put in place with GPTs (GUID partition table). GPT supports partition sizes up to 9.4 zettabytes. Currently the ReiserFS is used on the partitions, which has a limit of max volume size of 16 TiB with a max file size of 8 TiB (on 32 bit systems). On other systems the max file size is 1 EiB. relative scale 1 tebibyte (TiB) / terabyte (TB) = 2^40 (~ 10^12) 1 exbibyte (EiB) = 2^60 (~ 10^18) 1 zettabyte = 2^70 (~ 10^21)
