April 18, 201214 yr I lost power to my unraid machine. It's connected to a battery backup, but the power was off for a while and I wasn't home. When I got home, this is the message I got when connecting (via Firefox) to the unraid server: "Not Found The requested URL /main.htm was not found on this server. Apache Server at www.data.com Port 80" I turned off the machine, turned it back on, and I could connect to the server. However, this morning, I received the same message and had to turn off the machine and turn it back on again. Currently, unraid is performing a parity check. Is there a way I can determine why unraid is being unresponsive? Are there any debugging steps I should be following? Thank you.
April 18, 201214 yr How do you try accessing the server? By typing tower? www.data.com looks like a cloud server. What has it got to do with unraid?
April 18, 201214 yr Author I'm sorry -- I renamed it from "tower" to "data" (since data meant something to me and tower didn't). The unraid machine quit again. The machine itself is running (at least the 4 fans are). This is in a utility room where my wired network is, so the machine is not connected to a monitor. I won't be able to plug a monitor in for a while (have to go to work now).
April 18, 201214 yr Seems to be connecting to data.com instead of the hostname. Have you tried using the ip instead? To get your local ip for your box if you're not sure just telnet/ssh in and type ifconfig Also, Make sure youre adding the http to http://data:80 Some browsers like to add .com to things assuming you've forgotten. If this is what youre doing it will be a dns problem, perhaps your router? Either way, Its an error on your end, not the servers (easy mistake to make!) since unraid doesnt run off of apache and so wont return that page regardless.
April 18, 201214 yr Author Thank you. The address I'm using to connect via browser is "http://www.data.com/main.htm". Here are the steps I've taken so far: 1) Machine is running (fans are going) but my router says the machine is not connected to the network (all computers have fixed IP addresses). 2) I reboot the unraid machine. 3) Using the browser, I access "http://www.data.com/main.htm". I get the following (the normal screen I get; I have three drives and one cache drive, and of course one parity drive): LIMElimes_small.jpg (1231 bytes)technology Server name: Data Comments: All Family Data unRAID Server Plus Main | Users | Shares | Settings | Devices version: 4.7 Disk status Model / Serial No. Temperature Size Free Reads Writes Errors parity WDC_WD15EARS-00M_WD-WMAZ20055531 33°C 1,465,138,552 - 15,476 335 0 disk1 WDC_WD15EARS-00Z_WD-WMAVU1880087 30°C 1,465,138,552 366,096,608 16,972 136 0 disk2 WDC_WD15EARS-00Z_WD-WMAVU2147771 30°C 1,465,138,552 364,008,164 15,457 83 0 disk3 WDC_WD10EARS-00Y_WD-WCAV5W015787 33°C 976,762,552 450,034,232 19,296 116 0 cache WDC_WD3200KS-00PFB0_WD-WCAPD2549571 37°C 312,571,192 311,725,664 93 66 0 Command area Started Stop will take the array off-line. I'm back at (1) above. I'm just trying to determine if this is a hardware error or a software error. Is there some type of logging I can enable on the unraid machine so I can ensure it's not a software error? Assuming it's a hardware error, is all my data lost?
April 18, 201214 yr Author It's been less than 30 minutes and the unraid machine is offline (not connected to the network). So, I just need some way to determine if the software got corrupted or if the hardware is failing. It seems odd that the unraid machine works perfectly for about 20 minutes (daughter was about 20 minutes into her show, stored on the unraid server, when the server failed), then fails. That leads me to believe it may be a software issue, but I can't tell unless I can determine how to debug this.
April 18, 201214 yr Author Thank you. Maybe I should restate what my problem is. My problem is not accessing the unraid server using a web browser (or at least I believe that's not my problem). My problem is that after I reboot my unraid server, it only remains connected to the network for about 20 minutes. That is, I can see what is connected to my network by using my router. After I reboot the unraid server, the unraid server is connected to my network ACCORDING TO MY ROUTER. Then, after a certain time period (seems to be 20 minutes), the unraid server is no longer connected to my network ACCORDING TO MY ROUTER. In other words, no matter what I type into my web browser, I cannot access my unraid server because the unraid server is NOT connected to my network (at least according to my router). In other words, I'm relying on what my router says to tell me whether or not my unraid server is or is not connected to the network. When my router says the server is connected, I can access the server just fine using what I've written above. I have no problems. Once the server is somehow disconnected from the network, which I know because my router tells me the server is no longer connected to the network, I cannot access the server using the exact same address I used only 20 minutes before. So, can anyone please tell me how to debug a situation where the unraid server disconnects from the network after a short period of time (about 20 minutes)? Is there a file I can look at to see what the server was doing? Can I enable error reporting? Thank you.
April 18, 201214 yr Thank you. The address I'm using to connect via browser is "http://www.data.com/main.htm". '>http://www.data.com/main.htm". '>http://www.data.com/main.htm". I get the following (the normal screen I get; I have three drives and one cache drive, and of course one parity drive): This should not work. http://www.data.com/ is an Internet web site. The address of the server should be http://data/. What IP address is being assigned to the server by YOUR ROUTER? Try to connect with http://IP.address.of.server
April 19, 201214 yr Author Can't you see anything strange in the syslog? Please post the syslog here. I took my USB memory stick out of the unraid server and plugged it into a computer, and I don't see a syslog on the memory stick. According to this: http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/Troubleshooting#Capturing_your_syslog I have to capture my syslog before I reboot. However, the unraid server runs for about 20 minutes and then goes off my network. That is, it no longer has an IP address and I can't access it via telnet, web browser, etc. Can I get unraid to store the syslog so that the syslog is on the memory stick and available for me to see?
April 19, 201214 yr Author Thank you. The address I'm using to connect via browser is "http://www.data.com/main.htm". '>http://www.data.com/main.htm". Try to connect with http://IP.address.of.server Please, please, please ignore that I ever posted how I reach my unraid server by using a web browser. That technique works now (when my unraid server works, that is) and has worked for the last year. I just rebooted the server and can access the server using "http://data/main.htm" (at least this is what copies from Firefox) (and this is the same address that's worked for the last year). The real problem is that my unraid server goes offline (i.e., is no longer on the network) after about 20 minutes. I would appreciate any help in debugging this problem.
April 19, 201214 yr Author For instance, I just rebooted the unraid server and my router lists the server in the "connected devices" section as the following: HomeComputer 10.0.0.5 Static IP Ethernet 1C:6F:65:75:11:A3 Data Server I can connect to the server. After the unraid server goes offline, the router lists the server in the "offline computers" section with the same static IP and name "Data Server". The server is still running (at least the fans are running), but the server is no longer on my network.
April 19, 201214 yr From your client machine, open a command prompt and start a continuous ping test to the ip address. On windows that would be ping -t 10.0.0.5 What message is returned after the machine shows offline? You should get returns initially, and transition to another message when it changes to offline.
