February 25, 20251 yr I have a failed drive I dont actually know why its got an x and says contents are emulated. I have plenty of space on it and wondered if i can remove it all together? whats the best process for this? how would the data be moved to the other drives as it shows as desabled?
February 25, 20251 yr Community Expert Does it have data? If yes, you would need to move to the remaining disks first.
February 25, 20251 yr Community Expert The first thing is that is highly likely that there is nothing wrong with the drive. A Red ‘x’ just means that a write to it failed so it is no longer in sync with parity. Far more often than not this is caused by something external to the drive such as cabling or power. If you want to test the drives health then the thing to do is to run the Extended SMART test on it - if it passes then it is normally fine. Posting your system’s diagnostics might also allow us to give an opinion. in term of moving data off the emulated drive then there are various options such as the Unbalance plugin or using the file manager of your choice (e.g the Dynamix File Manager built into the latest Unraid release). Actually removing a drive from the array is covered here in the online documentation accessible via the ‘Manual’ link at the bottom of the GUI or the DOCS link at the top of each forum page. The Unraid OS->Manual section in particular covers most features of the current Unraid release.
