March 16, 20251 yr Hey Guys i recently purchased this JMCD 12S4 case with 12 Bays. I plan on running unraid and currently have a corsair SF750W. The NAS backplane uses 3 molex inputs for power, SF750 Rating +5V is rated at 20A 130W +3.3V is rated at 20A 130W +12V is rated at 62.5A 750W +5vsb is rated at 3A 15W PSU also only have 3 Sata/Pate connecters Will i be able to run these 12 drives from this? Do i need to run individual Molex lines for each of the Backplane? or Can i use 1 or 2 lines. Thank you
March 16, 20251 yr During startup, drives usually use about 20 watt or so, so times 12 is about 240 watt, so it should be plenty. These type of cases normally use 1 molex per 4 drives, so you'll need all 3 filled, unless you don't use them all (e.g. if you don't use the top row, you won't need a molex there). As for the data-connection, that looks like SFF-8643, you'll have to look at the other side to see if they are SAS or SATA (SAS is one wide open slot, SATA is two connectors). If you don't have a SAS controller/HBA, you'll need 3 reverse breakout cables to connect all positions.

I purchased these case with the cables so they are included. The SF750 only come with one cable that has 3 Molex headers, and unfortunally its short cable. But my question is can i run this with one cable to 3 Molex outputs? or should i use 2 lines to the PSU? Thank you

A molex plug is designed to carry 11a for 12v and 11a for 5v (so 132w and 55w). But of course the question is can the cable carry 3 times that for 3 connectors, and most of the time it can't. But hard drives don't use that much, so there is no issue with it. If there was, they wouldn't supply that cable in the first place.

I'm not disagreeing with splitting the molex 4 pin connector to multiple outlets, but the existence of this abomination shows that ability to source a cable isn't proof the cable is proper for the application.
March 18, 20251 yr For a "good" example, I have 2 of these in my backup server: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HWQUJ0G
March 19, 20251 yr Author I ended up requesting 2 custom cables 16awg 1st cable 330mm - 1st Molex at 215mm the next one at the end 2nd cable 330mm with a Molex at the end Im going to give this a shot and hope i dont have an issue. If i do i will order andother cable and use all 3 outputs of my PSU I wanted to keep one output in case i decide later to use the internal caddy of 4 Sata SSDs Edited March 19, 20251 yr by ggonxhi
