Network switchs to 100mbps

Featured Replies

Hello there,

I have a network issue with my server Unraid 7.0.1. Network cable is 1000mbps compatible but after some times it switchs to 100mbps. I have to unplug the cable and replug it to get back to 1Gbps. The cable is directly linked to the home router (which is the box for internet).

Exactly same issue than this topic: https://forums.unraid.net/topic/139069-network-keep-switching-to-100mbps/

I link some diagnostics files, if a good soul could take a look at it and see any issue that would be much appreciated :)

Try using a different cable and/or router port, if it keeps happening, you could try a new NIC.

Thanks @JorgeB I'll try that asap I'm at home.

Right now at work I tried to re-negociate the speed using

Quote

ethtool -r eth0

And it worked, back to 1gbps.

A 1Gbps link falling back to 100Mbps tends to indicate a dodgy cable or port. The 1Gbps requires 4 twisted pairs working while the 100Mbps requires only two.

I would seriously consider getting an inexpensive 1Gbs switch (~$20US) and have only one cable plugged into that Modem/Router box which connects it to the new switch.  Those combo boxes are usually the cheapest ones that the IPS can find to purchase.  Moving the switching function out of that box will lower its work load as well as its temperature.

After I came back home and restarted the network interface, since then it's stay at 1gbps, so let's see nextime it happens.

Just to let you know (and eventually close the topic), since my last post I haven't see the issue occuring again, the network stays at 1Gbps. I don't know why, didn't reboot the server, didn't apply any update. I'm afraid this topic won't help other people who may face the issue in the future...

Edit : I see I can hide or delete the topic, question to people: do you think it's valuable to keep it or we should simply hide it as no real solution was found/needed?
