Plex Hardware Transcoding - Twin Lake N150

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Ive recently set up a media server using Unraid for the first time. Everything has been pretty straight forward so far in terms of getting Plex and the arr's all running, but getting hardware transcoding to work is the last thing I have to do and I cannot seem to find anyway to get that to work. Ive read just about every forum post on the internet on the topic, to no avail.

I am running Unraid 7.0.1 on a Beelink S13 with Intel N150. In the BIOS, I have igfx set as the primary display. I have also installed Intel GPU Top.

When i run "cd /dev/dri" in the terminal as other posts recommended i get the "bash: cd: dev/dri: No such file or directory" response.

When i run "intel_gpu_top" i get "No device filter specified and no discrete/integrated i915 devices found"

Ive tried that many different solutions, I'm more confused than when I started! Apologies if the above is not overly helpful or relevant, and more is required, I'm very much a newbie in this space and stumbling my way through it.

Any help would be much appreciated!

tring to get tech specs for that device. its not bad but is a very low powered device. the celluron chips are not bad and have a greate deal of features since its orginal gen 1 release moving off pentium 4...

The integrated graphics processor is made up of 24 Tiger-Lake H execution units running at 1GHz which means that the graphics performance is rather limited. The GFXBench Car Chase and Manhattan 1080p offscreen tests ran at 26fps and 56.5fps respectively which is low if no lower than we expected. The Mini S13 can however drive two screens at up to 4K 60Hz without drama which in this context is more important than outright graphics performance.

with 4 cores and a igpu that doesn't hit uhd ....

sad to say it may not be plex transcode compatibility.

So I would not cout on this box being able to run plex effectively and transcode...

Gpu may be missing inte q sync and other features that the full chipset cpu has... In unraid you will need to install the intel driver plugins. Most igpu run under the i915 modprobe for drivers... you will need to install intel top at the min... the pass the gpu to the plex docker...

It does work!

I upgraded to this from a j5040 and even that could transcode 2 streams of 1440p hevc hdr while direct playback to many more

the n150 can push 8k source.

you'll need upto date linux / drivers

He said it's not present on the host so won't help, driver's not loading.

I wasn't trying to fix his issue (that was probably resolved long ago, when a newer version of linux was added) i was trying to fix mine.

The title is very basic so a google search leads people here first where they are told that it's hopeless. (top search result for "Plex n150 Unraid")

it's not hopeless, it was fixed with 7.1.

Our chat might help the next guy becouse otherwise it's a complete dead end.

People read the solution to see if it applies to them even with different issues and it said "probably incompatible, it's a rubbish chip"

I couldn't let that go unanserd even if my problem was just that i forgot to add /dev/dri when making the docker for plex

Yes the N150 uses the same iGPU as the 15th gen Intel CPUs which requires unraid 7+

These both required the Xe drivers.
