Question ... i have had some problems here local to my server/setup and some how the '/mnt/user/system/docker/docker.img' gets a error (or something) and my DOCKER just go off line. I reinstall apps the dockers and they read the old configs, everything is backup and running ..... thanks to unraid😅 for letting me do that .. i though i would have to re-config all the dockers programs and i have been running for years so that would of been a BIG problem ...

Now to the question can now that it is working at 100% can i just go back and make a copy of the docker.img and if i would have a problem again just copy it back as long and not changes were made?

& #2 how big should the docker file be i have mine at 600G. Can i make it smaller and how can i tell what size i should be using now i thing my file is way to but for just 6 or so programs running

thanks as alway John G.

You can't do that. If the docker.img gets corrupted you recreate it and use previous apps to reinstall your containers. With a good connection it's very quick.

I'll add that if your docker.img is 600G you probably have a misconfiguration on one or several docker. Mine is around 100G for around 100 containers.

You have to verify paths used on your dockers. One is probably writing on a path it shouldn't.

Default of 20GB should be fine for that, everything else is space you're wasting on your drive. Can't shrink without recreating, but recreating is trivial as you found out, so backing up also makes no sense.
