May 24, 201214 yr This card seems truly awesome. 8 sata ports on a pcie x8 bus. This should be pretty fast no? I can get one for like $35 shipped and the breakout cables for like $13 each. Why go with any other card, e.g. the supermicro... the supermicro is almost $100 and uses a slower bus--pcie x4. I plan on just using 2tb hard drives.. up to 12 of them (using the 4 onboard sata ports as well). Should I just go with this card? Will I notice any performance problems with it? Will i get a full 1gb/s transfer rate on reads, over my 1gb/s network? There must be some drawback to this card cause it's only $35!?
May 24, 201214 yr Author So this card actually supports up to 3tb hard drives? Does it only format them to 2.2tb?
May 25, 201214 yr With cheap deals going around on the M1015 on these forums at the moment ($70 including postage), I'd go with one of those instead. That way you're future proofed. I realise it's double the price, but it is the better choice imho.
May 25, 201214 yr I agree that the M1015 would be the better choice. In fact, I just bought another one today. But the Br10i would probably be fine for your needs as long as you are OK with the 2.2TB limitation.
May 26, 201214 yr Author I bought a sata breakout cable for the br10i as well. Can I use this cable on the M1015? If so, I could put the br10i I just bought back on the eBay market.
May 26, 201214 yr Yes, you can use the same cable on the M1015. The M1015 and BR10i both have SFF-8087 connectors.
May 26, 201214 yr Author Where do you see them for $70--I only see em for $80. Also, I need the full size bracket for it. Does it come with the bracket for 70? If not, how much is the bracket for that?
