Fan Control Issue After Reboot

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have 4 fans, 2 noctua NF-A12x25 and 2 Artic P12 PWM PST installed on my chassis connected to a supermicro X11SSL-F MB with the FAN Mode set to optimal speed

I currently have the fans running quietly instead of 100% using the simonF IPMITools plugin but when rebooting the server or starting it, the fans speed goes bacl to 100%.

What I did find logging in the web gui of the ipmi, the Fan Mode reverted back to full speed instead of optimal. In order to bring down the speeds, I need to select the optimal speed mode and reset the unit. I also noticed looking in the event log the status shows red for the upper threshold.

Can someone point me in the right direction to resolve my issue with the fans spinning at 100% after reboot. Your help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Late reply but might be helpful, I had a similar problem. It turned out to be that IPMItools had been removed in favor of FreeIPMI which has slightly different commands. I have just recently managed to figure out how to control the fans again after finding the answer in a random reddit post.

I use the following commands to control the CPU and PCIe Zones: ipmi-raw 0x00 instead of ipmitool raw

eg: for 70% fan speed

ipmi-raw 0x00 0x30 0x70 0x66 0x01 0x00 0x45 (CPU)

ipmi-raw 0x00 0x30 0x70 0x66 0x01 0x01 0x45 (PCIe)

I have attached the userscript i run at array start to set my fans. probably over complicated but if i want to change the speed i just have to move which line is missing the leading hash

I am having the same issues, I was hoping someone could help me resolve.

Noctua NF-A8 PWM x7installed

Noctua NF-A6x25  x2 installed over the cpu cooler plugged into the motherboard. I belive these are the fans spinning higher as two of them are at 7,000 rpms and the others are at 2300 rpm

Supermicro 36-Bay 4U SuperStorage Server SSG-6047R-E1R36L 64GB RAM 2X E5-2609V2

Intel Xeon E5-2697 V2 SR19H 2.70GHz 30M 12-Core LGA 2011 CPU 130W upgraded to this reason for adding coolers attached to the aluminum cooler

ASRock Intel Arc A310 Low Profile 4GB GDDR6 Graphics Card | 2000 MHz | Dual Fan installed

I have uploaded my diagonstics. I'm currently at about 74% on my parity drive with 4 other 14tb drives I bought from server part deals.

I am also only showing 1 fan on my dashboard and it's at 0 rpm. I'm trying to get these fans to spin down because cpu isn't getting that hot right now it's running around 30-35c idle

I've attempted to move the fan speeds to 300 / 200 / 100 but I can't move below 300 / 225 / 150
