May 27, 201214 yr Hello All I'm kinda new to servers things and thus to unRAID. I'm playing and learning setup/use and all following tuts from the official and unofficial wikis. Something i'm getting lost at is that both are referring at "hidden" dropdown choice in permissions shares settings. All i get is read/write read-only and no access regarding AFP Security Settings. Is no access the same thing? Another question, even if my household is "ruled" by Apple products, i'd like to enable SMB. My concern is that it looks like the shares permissions aren't managed the same way the AFP are. All i can see is read/write read-only, there's no no access, so userA can see at less userB files and folders (like the finance shares read/write to mom&dad but not visible to children; referring the explanations in the wikis). How can i do that ? EDIT1 : i can see in SMB Security Settings that the Private choice in the security dropdown list is grayed out, is that related to my concern ? (infos in my sig)

(infos in my sig) User-level security is not available in the "free" (unRAID Basic) version. See here in the FAQ: http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/FAQ#How_is_unRAID_licensed.3F
May 27, 201214 yr Author mmmkay So, another question is coming. i'm using an old laptop as a test and to learn how to use and manage a server. If i buy a license related to my laptop UID, would it possible that in the near future when i'll get a "real" server to use that license providing my new UID?
May 27, 201214 yr The unRAID key is tied to the GUID of the USB stick that you run it from. You can change the computer/laptop/server hardware as many times as you like - makes no difference. It is just the USB stick that must not change.

The license is tied to the flash drive GUID. (not the laptop) Yes, you can move the unRAID flash drive to newer hardware... (basically replacing everything) You can even use a flash-card-reader such as this one as long as it has a unique GUID http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=16204.msg149821#msg149821 (The Kingston MobileliteG2 has been confirmed as having a unique GUID. Many inexpensive "flash card readers" do not, so they cannot be licensed.) Joe L.
May 27, 201214 yr Author One but least question Has any server got a SDcard reader or anything like that other then USB drives ? i'd like to use a SDcard because i don't like using a USBkey that stick out the whole thing (aestheticism concern in fact).

And for those that don't, you can use a USB expansion slot and mount it inside your case.
May 28, 201214 yr Another option re: hiding the USB is to look at something like this, if you have a spare PCIe x1 slot: http://www.amazon.com/SD-PEX-NEC5U-External-Internal-Ports-Chipset/dp/B000YUMJ3M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1338172458&sr=8-1
May 28, 201214 yr You could use one of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815201028 Or if you want some flexibility(concerned about clearance or anything) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812200294 I've used both, currently using the second option right now as it allowed me to hide the USB drive behind the MB tray.
May 28, 201214 yr I'd forgotten all about those, which is a bit silly as that's exactly what I use so that both my ESXi and UnRaid flash are inside my machine The one I have is below, but they're all much of a muchness. http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-Motherboard-Header-Adapter-USBMBADAPT2/dp/B002GNU2V6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1338179898&sr=8-1
