VM Backup & Restore for unRAID

Featured Replies

A follow up to my last post.

After manually running this against all my VMs, I found that some worked successfully, while others (for example Home Assistant) ended up with a bunch of other unrelated iso files from other VMs.

It seems to copy everything in the iso folder, not just what's mounted on the VM being backed up.

Curious, you mention it is basically in "Maintenance Mode" in the description: So why set it to depreciated? Because now if you keep it installed you get the constant nag to uninstall it.

thanks for the details. that brings a good point for me to allow that, the reason it's blocked right now is i was trying to prevent loss of data where someone writes from user to disk or disk to user

  • I haven't try this plugin yet but I've added it to my system and have been watching it mature. I'm currently using this plugin for my VM backups at the moment: https://forums.unraid.net/topic/86303-vm

Nice helpful tool, thanks for your work! @jcofer555

One thing I want to comunicate is that I would like the possibility to choose a light theme, because of my eye-problems.

It is possible to stand it, because I do not spend much time on the applications-page, but would be helpful anyway. Perhabs for other people as well.

Feature suggestion:

Add the ability to run a Pre and Post script.

Use case is to mount an SMB Share with the "Unassigned Devices" plugin before the backup and then unmount it after the backup completes.

@jcofer555 Based on today's update: "2026.05.22.01 - Final release" can we assume no more development going forward for this plugin?

Hello, I had notifications activated for a job, but disabled them again, and I still get these emails and notifications that the VM backup is running. How can I delete it?

it should just be you needing to unselect notifications and save those new settings

  • Plugin deprecated, no new development going forward, will be around to support what is there but likely nothing new

Hey @jcofer555 , thanks for the update on the "depreciated."

On a separate topic, if you want assistance with maintaining this, I'm open to helping.
