July 13, 201213 yr I've just precleared one 4TB disk, but if i go into unMenu's main screen, it shows 2 disks? /dev/sdb /dev/sdb1 Is this normal? Also, in the various documentation a 'format' button is referenced. Where is it?
July 13, 201213 yr There is only one disk shown. Use the unRAID GUI. It shows the disk and also the entry for the first partition on the disk. There is nothing unusual. The trailing "1" on the disk name indicates it is the name for the first partition on the disk. As others have said, use the unRAID interface to format the disk AFTER assigning it to the array. (I'm assuming you are assigning it to the array since you do not have any disks assigned to the array just yet.) It will present to you a "Format" button. Joe L.
July 13, 201213 yr Author I've assigned it as parity disk, but still no format button... is there a screenshot to show where this should be? Or should i reboot for changes to take effect?

You haven't started the array. Format shows after that... Though i'm not sure why you are adding a parity drive with 0 data disk. I'd imagine unRAID wouldn't even allow you to start the array with just a parity drive.
July 13, 201213 yr Author I'm just in a testing- and discovery period i bought one disk just to get an idea about what unRAID does and how it works, to see if it's something i want to go with. I now understand that for the format procedure, you need to have an actual array of multiple disks, i was under the impression that you could just format a single disk, like in any other OS, but 'formatting' in the unRAID context is closely coupled to formatting the actual array rather then one disk as it seems. Guess it's time to get some more disks then

July 13, 201213 yr Author 35°C isn't hot. >50°C is hot. Nothing to worry about. During preclear it went up to 39°C.

July 13, 201213 yr Looks like the "Simplefeatures" add-on you've installed has a bug. It says you have a protected array of two drives. You are not protected (since you've not installed a parity drive yet), and only have one data disk installed. It is not affecting the array, it is a reporting display bug of the alternate skin you installed. You should report that to its author. Joe L.
