September 24, 201213 yr I've been happily listening to my music via the 4.7 Subsonic package for a month when today the music server didn't respond. Well, that was not the first time, so I'm not worried. When I got home, I couldn't restart Subsonic. But everything works fine, shares and all. So I decided to restart the whole server. Every balls were green, I stopped the array, then hit the reboot button. And now the drama : it doesn't reboot. Just the little waiting cursor on the black screen. Just like if nothing is present on the USB key. What the heck? If I ever have to reinstall UnRAID, I won't loose the files and stuff I already got on my HDDs? HALP! (I was on 5rc6)
September 24, 201213 yr Check to see what your boot sequence is in the motherboard's BIOS. Some motherboards are notorious for changing the boot order when presented with a non-HD boot drive setting.
September 25, 201213 yr If I ever have to reinstall UnRAID, I won't loose the files and stuff I already got on my HDDs? HALP! (I was on 5rc6) No, you won't lose the files. If a drive comes up as unformatted, do NOT, I repeat, DO NOT, format the drive. If you are unsure which drive is parity, do NOT, I repeat, DO NOT, set a drive as parity and start the array. It WILL overwrite the drive. If you had to reinstall unraid, post for guidance before starting the array. Follow Franks suggestion, that's what it sounds like.
September 25, 201213 yr Author Well, thanks for the replies. I forgot to mention that i checked to see if the motherboard has changed itself the boot priority (boot priority setup & Boot Device Priority) : nothing has been changed. Strange thing I come up with is that the usb key in which UnRAID is installed isn't recognized both by a PC or a MAC, they both ask me to format it in order to browse it. Before my probs, i just had to plug it in and happily navigate through the files. The twilight zone i say EDIT: I've disabled every boot device that are set by default after the USB key. it came up with the message Boot failed, continue to look for Boot Media Wait for input.... If the USB is somewhat dead, what brand/model you can advise me ?
September 25, 201213 yr Your PC or mac should recognise the USB stick just fine. It does sound like your stick has carked it. I use Patriot USB sticks myself, but there are plenty of decent options. Do yourself a favour though and always keep a backup of \tower\flash so you can recover from this sort of issue very quickly.
September 25, 201213 yr Author Well, so the only option is to reinstall it all? And I've learned that I should do a backup of the flash too! My USB key is a 4GB HP, don't remember the model, but it's not a cheap one Envoyé depuis mon HTC Sensation avec Tapatalk
September 25, 201213 yr Author I wanted to check the disk, every time I plug the USB key, I'm asked to format it, then check disk returns "disk check can't be done because the disk is not formatted, would you like to format it?" (maybe not the right way it's said in English, my puter is in french) My finger is waiting to hit the format button. You guys don't have any other option? Is my key dead or just got faulty? Any advice when I'll reinstall it all regarding my disks (to not lose my data and previous parity). If you had to reinstall unraid, post for guidance before starting the array.
September 25, 201213 yr Personally I don't see the point in trying to recover USB media as it's so cheap for the most part. Format it, sure.. but I don't know that I'd be trusting it to unRaid again. Then again, if you back up your flash... /shrug
September 25, 201213 yr Author Well, i formatted it and I'm gonna give a second chance. Starting a the fact (the hope) i won't lose any data (if i don't mess it all) it's not that much pain in the nose to me. I started a new topic on how to assign disks (data & parity) for a new-install-like-it-was-before-when-you-don't-know-what-disk-was-DATA-or-Parity
