November 21, 201213 yr Hi all, I am a newbie so please be patient with me haha My NAS specs: Fractal Design Array R2 Intel D510MO / D510 Intel MN10 4Gb DDR2 800Mhz 6x2tb / 12tb HDD space in total (no cache drive yet). I am using a 4Gb SanDisk Cruzer USB. I've tried multiple times to get it to boot and nothing but this time I receive this error: Boot error. It doesn't seem to be able to load the software. Any advice? Thank you
November 21, 201213 yr Did you read this: http://lime-technology.com/support/unraid-server-installation If this doesn't help, describe in great detail exactly what happens from the instant when you push the power button on your computer and the approximate time between each event.
November 23, 201213 yr Author No that didn't help. Power on > loads past bios > displays details on hard drive > Boot error (black screen).
November 23, 201213 yr Two things come to mind - try different USB stick. Maybe current one is no good. Also, maybe your mobo isn't booting to the USB drive. Sure the BIOS is set correctly? Whaler
November 23, 201213 yr No that didn't help. Power on > loads past bios > displays details on hard drive > Boot error (black screen). OK! You have one of two problems: First possibility, you do not have a bootable USB flash drive. Did you make it exactly as described on the web page that I described to you? The only thing that is not real clear on that page is that the file that you download from LimeTech is a 'zipped file' and has to be unzipped before you copy it on the flash drive. Most of us will unzip into a separate folder and copy the contents of that folder onto the flash drive. (Unfortunately, Windows will give a file listing of the files inside a zipped file and this can confuse persons who are not familiar with zipped files.) Second possibility is that your motherboard is not setup to boot from a flash drive plugged into an USB port. On the webpage that I pointed you to in my early post is a section entitled "Booting unRAID Server". Read that for suggestions on how to setup your motherboard to boot from the flash drive.
November 23, 201213 yr Third possible issue is that your flashdrive will not boot.. Some flashdrives have a partition setup that will cause problem and is a pain to change.. Best steps to fix: 1) check if your bios is setup to boot from your flashdrive (look for something like boot-order), if it is not set correctly then set it correctly and try again; 2) if 1) is ok then redo the complete setup on a new flashdrive and try again.
