November 26, 201213 yr Running unRAID 5.0 RC8a Pro I just updated my motherboard+cpu on my server and noticed error lines in my log. Just wondering what these mean. 353: Nov 26 02:04:44Server kernel: pci0000:00: ACPI _OSC request failed (AE_ERROR), returned control mask: 0x1d 738: Nov 26 02:04:44 Server kernel: ACPI Error: Method parse/execution failed [\_SB_.PCI0.SAT0.SPT3._GTF] (Node f4069108), AE_NOT_FOUND (20120320/psparse-536) 737: Nov 26 02:04:44 Server kernel: ACPI Error: [DSSP] Namespace lookup failure, AE_NOT_FOUND (20120320/psargs-359) Secondly on boot, it gets to (sdf is my flash drive): sd 0:0:0:0: [sdf] Attached SCSI removable disk and seems to stay there for a bit. Whereas I think my old board + cpu loaded right past it. Lastly, I find that when I am moving/copying files from a pc into a user share, on the same pc, if I'm streaming a video from the server, the video either freezes or stutters and buffers. Is this normal? Thanks in advance!
November 26, 201213 yr That all depends to a high degree on what you are doing with your server... It you have an extremely old setup, then start streaming blueray while downloading and torreting at the same time over wifi... THEN you might experience freezes. A bit more seriously: No, when setup right and using half a decent machine unraid will not stutter.. But there are a lot of things that can cause it to stutter..
November 26, 201213 yr Author The problem is that when I moves files (a large file or season folder) and try to stream video of any quality, the video stutters and freezes on the same computer I'm moving/copying files from. I'm on gigabit lan, all wired. Any other computer will access the server fine. My server specs are: Gigabyte B75M-D3P Intel Core i3 3220 6GB of DDR3 1333MHz Ram
November 26, 201213 yr The issue could be on server or the client. If you copy from a second PC, PC-2, does the video to PC-1 stutter?
November 26, 201213 yr Author The issue could be on server or the client. If you copy from a second PC, PC-2, does the video to PC-1 stutter? Nope, video only stutters on the PC that is copy/moving files/folders, in your example it is PC-2. PC-1 is fine. I noticed this problem when I was watching something on my HTPC and something finished downloading and I decided to move it to my server, as the file was transferring the video was stuttering or frozen. Using VLC if that matters. Tried it with my other PC and same thing. Other PCs connected to the server stream fine, PCs only stuttering if they are transferring to the server. Thanks!

For what it's worth, in my experience with VLC (comparing my netbook and my main PC-- AMD 4-core w/desecrate video), is that VLC can be very CPU intensive. I have a file (very high bit rate) that the netbook chokes on and the main Pc handles with ease.

This indicates that the client PC is not capable of playing while copying.

This indicates that the client PC is not capable of playing while copying. It seems to be happening on all my PCs though. I never had I problem when I used my HTPC (windows 7) as my file server (drive shares through the network) while copying/moving files and playing. So I honestly don't know what is wrong. All my client PCs have gigabit NICs. I'm thinking it's either a network issue or the unRAID server. I'm sure my client PCs are capable, since they worked fine when I used my Windows 7 HTPC as a file server in the past. My PCs that I've tested on so far are: Asus P6T, Core i7 920 OC'd to 3.8GHz, 12GB of ram <-main rig Some Gigabyte LGA 775 board, Pentium dual core E6500, 4GB of ram. <-HTPC Gigabyte GA-880GMA-UD2H, Athlon II x4 640, 6GB ram. <-bed room HTPC ...etc. Have more PCs, but these are the main ones I use. I doubt that my hardware is incapable of playing and doing other things like copying files at the same time. Any ideas? Thanks again! EDIT: Would it matter if I was using a version of 5 rc8a that was modified by a user with a driver added. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=22615.msg201529#msg201529 I was using it because my previous NIC I had on my board wasn't compatible. My new and current board has a Realtek 8111DP. Would it be compatible with 5 rc8a natively? How would I go about installing that version?
November 27, 201213 yr It could be some nature of packet flow. Whenever your windows machine is writing a file to disk, the packets have to be acknowledged by unraid. If unraid is maxing its I/O from that it may suffer trying to send a stream of packets back to the PC for a video stream. Just a thought.

I enabled my cache drive and now it doesn't stuttering when I stream videos and transfer at the same time? So perhaps the problem is how unRAID is handling the files onto the drives? Thanks!
November 27, 201213 yr It sounds like your system is too busy somehow. Using the cache drive keeps network traffic the same but puts less strain on the cpu. Are you running any plugins ? Try disabling them (if you want, a cache drive is a good idea anyhow). If you see my sig you see that our cpu is comparable. Watching a blueray now while two telnet windows have mc running redistributing files.

When I check the status, it's not using much cpu. Is there a way to reinstall unRAID? Thanks!
November 27, 201213 yr If you just remove all underneath the plugins directory then a lot is gone, not sure about unmenu, i do not use it anymore myself.
November 27, 201213 yr Make sure you are using the latest BIOS for your motherboards with fix "Enhanced Realtek LAN compatibility"
November 28, 201213 yr Author Make sure you are using the latest BIOS for your motherboards with fix "Enhanced Realtek LAN compatibility" I'll check if they are any bios update for my brand new motherboard on my unRAID server but I would highly doubt my other computers all need bio updates for LAN to be compatible. Though it doesn't seem like a LAN problem since when I enable the cache drive this doesn't happen also my transfer speeds seem to be average like everyone elses using unRAID. 25-30MB/s without cache, 90-150MB/s with cache drive. It's only when I disable the cache drive and have unRAID transfer directly into my data drives that it stutters. Transfer speed doesn't drop but the video stream stutters.
