So I have an unraid box with 6X2TB drives, what is the most cost effective way to upgrade for more space

Should I jump to red drivers? Currently they are all green.. only problem is right now 3tb is largest I can buy in Red...

I would gain something around 5tb's...

Right now I have.... approx 1.5tb of free room - maybe 2 max.. but I also have a about 500-700gb to be loaded on...

So I'm running out of space, should I just wait for 4tb's to drop in price..

I really don't feel like building another system etc...

Need more info. You seem to be avoiding adding another slot, which in some cases would be the cheapest way to add space. Are you stuck at 6 slots?

well.. I would need..

to get unraid pro? I think "up to 21"

would need a one of those 4X3 bays

and an add in card....

My gut feeling is that you will be constantly chasing a full server if you try to stick with the 6 slot plus version. Data hoarding is addictive. :)

To add the first 1TB of additional space with 3TB drives would require the purchase of 2 drives, and you would be stuck repurposing 2TB drives. 4 and 5TB drives are so expensive right now it's not even a close comparison.

Without actually adding up the dollars, I'm still pretty sure you will come out ahead adding slots.

I may have to look into that as an option..

I mean I could do it slowly... upgrade 3tb parity and then sell the 2gb.. but how much can I get for a used 2tb green lol

good news is disk 5 has 800gb of shows that will be deleted once watched.. 2gb an episode shouldn't be to long

I really didn't think I would use up 10TB's SO QUICK LOL...

The next 10 tb will fill up even faster.  Here is the present situation here, (all 3tb drives)  I now have 4 Pro licenses....

Just buy a few of these servers, and you'll be good for few more weeks....  (grin)

(these came from ebay at $200 per server, 24 drive slots, Intel Xeon with IPMI etc...)

And this has no movies, only used for photo repositories for a large photo studio.
