Some quick upgrade questions

Featured Replies

Getting ready to upgrade my unraid from 4.7 to one of the new betas finally. never really saw the need before because it was working great as is, but i'm seeing some plugins i wanted to try but it looks like 4.7 doesn't have installplg support (along with a bunch of other new additions/features of course).

most of the plugins i have now are from unmenu.. will these still work on 5.0bX? (just asking in general, not specifics.. does unmenu work still?)

haven't run a parity sync in a while (approx 2 months) can i do the upgrade and just run the check after?

unMENU will still work.  Some of its packages have equivalents as plugins.  The plugin system is still immature... do not expect everything to just work...

Perform the parity check NOW, before any upgrade.  Then, follow the upgrade instructions.  (You need to resolve ALL issues such as HPAs prior to the upgrade)

Save a copy of your "config" folder.  You might just need it if you have to revert to 4.7.

Make a copy of your disk assignments...  Again, you may need it to get the disks assigned properly.

Thanks Joe, appreciate the quick response.

One last question (hopefully).. how much of my settings am i going to ned to setup again? sab and sb i'm guessing i just need to save my config files and i should be okay.. but what about lets say mysql databases and mysql users that i have setup? will i need to create them again? or should still be intact?

Everything should still work, in theory. You should disable all add-ons before the upgrade then re-enable them once the new system is working.

I do not mean to hijack this thread but I'm in the exact same position right now and my question might help the OP as well.

I started following the upgrade instructions but am at the very step dgaschk just mentioned - disabling add-ons. The only add-ons I have installed (by the sounds of it, like OP) are through unMenu. I kinda installed and never thought about them again. I don't see an option in the pkg Manager to disable them?

See the bottom of dgaschk's post - labeled "System Recovery Steps" - just above yours

I'm running 4.7 Pro; I don't have a flash/config/plugins or extras directory.

I'm guessing renaming the flash/packages would have the same effect? As for step 3, using the stock go file, does that mean replacing it with the stock 4.7 go file? I'm guessing so...

Maybe I should do this process on my test rig first, but it doesn't have nearly the same setup so I'm not sure it's worth the time. (I didn't upgrade my test setup, it was a straight install of 5.0x).

Too much data at  risk to not clarify :)

Just use the "Go" file from dgaschk's sig and that will disable all plugins in 4.7.  You don't need to rename any directories.

upgraded yesterday without much issue, had to rebuild my mysql db but it wasn't a big deal.

aside from that everything worked without a hitch! i did have one last question though..

all of my other shares are drwxrwx--- but for some reason one of them does not match. i tried running the permissions util again but it didn't seem to do anything. how can i make it match all of other shares?

example:

• USER/ drwxrwx--- 48 2012-05-23 10:54AM

• X264/ drwx------ 7064 2013-01-06 05:47A    <<<<<<<< how do i change this permission to match above?

It may take a long time to complete and the window must remain open. Or enter "newperms X246"
