speeding_ant
Hi all, Having big issues with AFP and queries for ACLs and extended attributes. Essentially the backup application that I use is very thorough, preserving every manner of information on a file. It does a compare against the source and destination file, and changes flags, ACLs, xattr's, etc. Looks like something in the line doesn't like that, and the share will unmount and you'll get direct logs relating to this. 2112: Feb 2 09:30:57 Archive last message repeated 27 times 2111: Feb 2 09:30:25 Archive emhttp: get_filesystem_status: statfs: /mnt/user/Archives Transport endpoint is not limetech
What backup application are you running? Is it running on the unRaid server or just connecting via network shares? Also, are you running -rc11? Quote Link to comment
speeding_ant
Running latest RC, using a product called SmartBackup via AFP share. On a Mac. You can replicate with rsync, however I have to use a compiled version that supports extended attributes. Even then it doesn't handle some files... Quote Link to comment
limetech
This message: emhttp: get_filesystem_status: statfs: /mnt/user/Archives Transport endpoint is not connected usually means the 'user share' filesystem has crashed. I did find a bug in this area that was fixed in -rc11. In trying to duplicate this AFP issue I found another bug having to do with extended attributes, which I fixed for next release. However, I don't think this would cause the problem you are seeing. What the bug would do is force netatalk to store all extended attributes for a file in a corresponding file in .AppleDouble directory (as if filesystem didn't support extended attributes). Nevertheless, please try this release to see if the issue is fixed, and if not, please send me the complete system log: http://download.lime-technology.com/download/unRAID%20Server%205.0-rc11a%20AiO.zip Quote Link to comment

limetech
PM sent Right, saw that, thank you. There's a disk/controller error in there, but probably not having to do with this issue I would think. An experiment to try if you can: Using -rc11a, create a new share and then set up AFP export as needed and see if this issue happens with a "fresh" share. Quote Link to comment
speeding_ant
Yeah that appears on two different motherboards with Seagate disks. Very odd, doesn't appear to affect performance. Unfortunately this issue only shows itself with data on the share. These errors are in the "compare" stage, just before the share disappears. No data will have been written at this stage (I know the developer of this backup application). I can attempt a backup with an SMB share? Quote Link to comment
limetech
Yeah that appears on two different motherboards with Seagate disks. Very odd, doesn't appear to affect performance. Something to keep an eye on. Unfortunately this issue only shows itself with data on the share. These errors are in the "compare" stage, just before the share disappears. No data will have been written at this stage (I know the developer of this backup application). Sorry, not sure what you mean here. The reason I was asking if you could try with a "fresh" share is because when you write the first file to an AFP-exported share, netatalk will perform some tests and set up needed ancillary directories and files such as the .AppleDouble directory and CNID database. One of the tests it does it check if the hosting file system supports extended attributes. It does this by trying to set/get an extended attribute on the root of the share. A bug in -rc11 prevented this from working correctly and this was fixed in -rc11a. I haven't looked at the netatalk code enough to know what happens if extended attributes suddenly work when before they didn't I can attempt a backup with an SMB share? Yes extended attributes should be supported by samba on the server side. Again, use -rc11a. Quote Link to comment
speeding_ant
Ah right - you've fixed the issue. Can I simply remove the AppleDouble and CNID databases on that share? Quote Link to comment
speeding_ant
Bugger, still getting the same issue. Appears to be load related (many consecutive reads over a large amount of small files), could be FUSE related? Do you have any 'keep alive' options set for user share mount points? I know with sshfs you can specify a reconnect under all conditions to keep the mount point alive, different case though. Quote Link to comment
speeding_ant
Definitely load related. find /mnt/user/ | wc -l find: `file': Software caused connection abort find: .: Transport endpoint is not connected Quote Link to comment

madburg
I figured I would give this version 11a a try as AFP has been a nightmare for me. Disabled AFP, updated to 11a, deleted everything apple, re-ran new permissions (again). rebooted, turned on AFP. I had one of my mac clients try to connect (via finder, nothing in Key Chain to my unRAID server), failed after trying for 5 mins. Selected to connect once again, this time I was prompted via finder; selected "Guest". Finally connected after 3 mins. Plex is running on the mac, refreshed a few sections, it created all apple stuff on the cache drive for each AFP share and file/folders. Proceeded to kick off mover manually, after the first AFP share mover completed to move, it had an issue with one file in the 2nd AFP share. Cant see how as this was all new, none of these apple files existed anywhere in the array... madburg
One other question, I noticed every time you start the array: Feb 19 18:54:18 PNTower emhttp: shcmd (300): chmod 777 '/mnt/disk18' Feb 19 18:54:18 PNTower emhttp: shcmd (301): chown nobody:users '/mnt/disk18' 'chmod 777' and 'chown nobody:users' is run on each and every disk, so is this running new permissions every time you start the array, basically? I also noticed upon array starting up, the data reads per disk starts from 2 digits (Read 19-23) and then each disk that consists of an AFP share gets Read in the thousands and write are being logged to the Parity drive??? Having a hard time understanding this; as when the array first starts and no clients are connected to it and no data is being changed why are there writes to the parity drive. This happens each time the array is started. Below is a screenshot once the array is started and the read from the data drives finally stop and the amount of writes to the parity drive: Quote Link to comment

ThOr101
Hi, I was directed to this post from this one that I started: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=26085 rc11a sounded good since it addressed issues with extended attributes and the SHFS. So I downloaded it, copied over the bzimage and bzroot, rebooted, the array came back up with 11a, and I immediately went to try my stock mover (with X for extended attributes) and I still got this: moving tank1/ ./tank1/temp/temp/menu.c32 *** glibc detected *** rsync: free(): invalid next size (normal): 0x080d2410 *** ======= Backtrace: ========= /lib/libc.so.6(+0x705aa)[0xb761d5aa] /lib/libc.so.6(+0x73503)[0xb7620503] /lib/libc.so.6(cfree+0x70)[0xb76236b0] rsync[0x807cd74] rsync[0x807de60] rsync[0x804f3aa] rsync[0x8050b5f] rsync[0x8051e56] rsync[0x8065825] rsync[0x80666ac] /lib/libc.so.6(__libc_start_main+0xe6)[0xb75c3b86] rsync[0x804aad1] ======= Memory map: ======== I couldn't get more than that because the kernel panics & terminates my connection to the box. So thanks for the 11a, but I still have some issues. Again, I've checked all the drives for reiserfs checks, and nothing came back to be fixed. Because of the unclean shutdown, I'm now doing a full parity check, so I'll be happy to experiment again when it is stable. Thanks! --THOR! Quote Link to comment
madburg
Sorry I cross posted as well, I have added some more details, hopefully helps Tom and us. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=26085.msg228544#msg228544 If any of the mods feel to move any of these post around, that's cool. madburg
speeding_ant, have you tried to move any apple based files (.AppleDesktop, .volinfo, .AppleDouble, .Parent), or files with extended attributes from your cache drive to the array? did it succeed or fail for you? Quote Link to comment
