Just Me
Hey, I need to buy a new hard disk for my unRAID server and I would like to get a 3 TB disk. However, I have read a few posts on the internet that some BIOS recognize a 3TB hard disk with a capacity of around 746GB instead of 3TB. I'm using a Asus M4A785T-M motherboard along with an Adaptec 1430SA controller card and a no name Silicon Image SIL3132 card. Can I use hard drives with a capacity of >2.2 TB on all twelve ports or will there be any problems? Thank you in advance. Quote Link to comment
mcs
I'm running 3Tb disks on an M4A78VM (which I believe is a similar) and 140SA controller (with its bios disabled) with no problems. http://www.asus.com.au/Motherboards/AMD_AM2Plus/M4A78VM/ Quote Link to comment
bonienl
I am using the Asus M4A785-M, which uses the same chipset as yours, and Adaptec 1430SA card together with 3TB disks, this is working fine. My advice: Use the latest BIOS for your Asus MB, version 2302, 18 Mar 2011 Use the latest BIOS for your Adaptec card, version 2507, 8 Nov 2010 Quote Link to comment
Just Me
Thanks for the replies. The 3TB hard drive works fine on the 1430SA controller card. Unfortunately, I have to RMA the hard drive so I cannot test the on board SATA ports yet. But I'm glad to hear that it should work. Quote Link to comment
Just Me
I just wanted to confirm that the 3TB hard drive is working well at the on board SATA ports. Quote Link to comment
