March 7, 201313 yr Hello all, So I got my unRaid all built and running like a charm so far. One of my goals was to automate and move as many tasks to the unraid box vs. using my old janky Desktop that is dire need of replacement. One task that I often do was use tools like handbrak to convert my video files (in all various formats) to MP4/Apple friendly formats for various reasons. Ive read on the forum there seems to be the ability to install Handbrake on UnRaid...but wanted to see if/what other solutions people use out there. Thoughts?
March 7, 201313 yr http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/10-applications-to-convert-audio-and-video-files-in-linux/ That's a quick google search, I'm sure if you tried you could get them to work with unraid. Also:- http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=3714.0 EDIT:- Personally, all movies I download are already in the quality/encoding I want, so, no point rereencoding them (Yes, rereencoding them).
March 11, 201313 yr Author Never used PS3MS....does that have a convert function? I do have AirVideo, and I know that you can convert offline...have neevr used that. I would guess that would covert the files to a valid MP4 format?
March 12, 201313 yr Not sure what your CPU is but I like Plex as it transcodes video and it will allow you to play on pretty much anything (including DLNA, like PS3MS). I have found it to work a little better for me personally with my PS3 and Rokus. It also (for a price) will work on mobile devices (iOS and Android at least).

I would guess that would covert the files to a valid MP4 format? Yes, the the offline conversion done by AirVideo will be compatible with Apple devices. I use it to convert videos to put on my iPad before trips. Just make sure to choose the quality settings you want. 100% quality tends to leave you will a file that is bigger than original so keep that in mind if storage space will be an issue. Also, if the video file has subtitles make sure to disable them before you start the offline conversion unless you want them. For some reason AirVideo for linux enables subtitles by default (and you can't turn this off ) during live and offline conversions and during the conversion it hard codes the subtitles into the video, there is no way to turn them off. Super annoying. There are other tools like handbrake but those are pure command line when using them in Unraid. So if you want a GUI to make things quicker and easier I say use AirVideo.
March 19, 201313 yr Tip for reencoding: There should be two drives, one with the file being processed, and one where it's being saved to. Using one drive for both adds wear & tear with constant thrashing of the head and dramatically increases processing time.

If you're using a cache drive the output would get written to the cache drive.
October 3, 201312 yr Hi guys, sorry to drag up and old thread but I have airvideo but for some reason I don't have the option to download the converted videos to watch offline. 3G is patchy on the train so offline playback is necessary. Any help?
