March 26, 201313 yr It looks like Amazon joined the handful of other retailers that have priced this drive at $140. There's a lot of discussion about the drive in some of the areas of the forums. I have yet to open my 3TB drive that I just picked up for $120. I am wondering if I want to return it and go with this drive instead... $20 for 1 TB is tough to pass up. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00829THLE/ref=as_li_ss_til?tag=the05e-20&camp=0&creative=0&linkCode=as4&creativeASIN=B00829THLE&adid=1KY2Y6ZEP03PN9KJSECB& flips

It's like an addiction..... Do I really need more space? YES, of course I do. I just ordered 4 more.
March 26, 201313 yr This sucks that I saw this thread. I ordered one from Newegg the other day for $139, now I just ordered another. I hope they are both DM's. Now I have two 12Vdc 1.5A power supplies. I can always find a home for those.
March 26, 201313 yr I really want to buy a few of these, but, I don't really want to buy anything that'll completely die on warranty the second I seriously use it. Why can't 4TBs be this cheap internally?

Why can't 4TBs be this cheap internally? Valid point, the warranty question. I saw internal Seagates here in Holland with only 1 year warranty. Í you break open these externals I'm afraid the warranty shortens to 0 days. Are the drives in the externals perhaps drives with a high count of reallocated sectors which are masked in firmware? Or are the binned out on some other "problem" while testing? If you want more warranty you have to pay I guess. Or rely on the retailer you bought them from.
March 26, 201313 yr Looks like Micro Center has these for $129.99 right now in-store only, limit one. http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.aspx?sku=221036

March 26, 201313 yr FYI, I bought from amazon yester day at 140. I complained today and they refunded $20 to match the current price. Keep in mind there was just a rebate that owered the price below 140 a few days ago as well.

Yeah the warranty is why I have hesitation as well. Although since they are only a year nowadays I am a bit less worried about it. A year goes pretty quick. My bigger concern would be knowing if they have issues right out of the box. According to this thread it looks like you can do a pre-clear with a SMART report while it is still in the case. Anyone try this with one of these drives? http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=17889.0 flips
March 26, 201313 yr Author It looks like for a short period of time they dropped to $130 before going back up to $150. Anyone quick enough to grab one for $130?
March 26, 201313 yr Warranty is the main reason why I don't buy external hard drives. I owned one external HDD, which I opened up, but no more externals HDD for me.
March 26, 201313 yr I was hesitant to purchase them based on the warranty myself. I originally had planned on no externals, but decided to gamble on them based on the price. I may regret it.

March 28, 201313 yr I ordered a total of 2, one from Newegg and one from Amazon. I received the Newegg order today and the Amazon order is scheduled for tomorrow. I received a DM from the egg and am now hoping for the same from Amazon. Running badblocks now. Love these end of quarter sales.

It looks like you can attach these right to SATA without voiding the warranty. Nice.. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=25675.msg224226#msg224226
