clean shutdown from commandline ?

Recommended Posts

i lost my emhttp somehow last night while the machine was doing it's monthly parity check and probably a crashplan backup

anyway i would like to know how to cleanly shutdown the machine from commandline ?

i still have access to ssh so i guess it could be done

searched everywhere ... but only thing i could find is an article for unraid 4.3

so can somebody help me out and maybe post it to the wikie ?

running latest rc5.14

The UnMenu script is the simplest if you're running UnMenu.

However, first confirm that emhttp is truly non-responsive.  Have you tried to access it from a DIFFERENT computer?    ... or, if you don't have access to another, after rebooting your PC?  [Do a shutdown; then restart instead of just a reboot -- to force a reinit with the router]

If that doesn't work, then the detailed command-line instructions in the link provided above should do the trick.

Whoops !!    Never mind.

I had that saved as one of my "in case I ever need it" links ... and while I confirmed it was still a good link, I didn't read through it again before posting it.

The procedure in the link REQUIRES that you have the Clean PowerDown package installed (from UnMenu) ... so if you don't have UnMenu installed it won't work as initially outlined.

HOWEVER ... you can apparently do it without UnMenu if you follow the instructions provided by Joe L in Reply #15 at that link.

having had issues with rc13 and rc14 with that powerdown script from 2008 am i still a bit reluctant to try it again....

was hoping a new version would be made but it seems we will have to do with this one :(

will test this evening when everything is off on the network

I didn't have a "hung" emhttp, so it's not quite the same ... but I HAVE tested the old Powerdown script on both RC14 and RC15 in several ways ... direct execution from UnMenu;  and invoking it through the APC UPS plugin by disconnecting power to the UPS and waiting for the shutdown.

As you may know, WeeboTech and Joe L are discussing the possible need for a newer version, and what it might need to incorporate, on a separate thread.

... but if emhttp is hung, you don't have a lot of choices  :)
