June 18, 201313 yr So, I'm running RC15, but I don't think that is relevant. This morning I noticed that the web interface I had open the night before was down. I tried telnet and ping to no avail. Checked the console and no signal to the monitor. Hmm. No choice but to reboot. On reboot, I can see all the drives lighting up like they are initializing (or whatever it is that they do on boot). But, still no signal to the monitor and no network. I think my motherboard took a dump I don't know what else to surmise.
June 18, 201313 yr Id plug in a monitor before I deamed anything dead. Let the monitor give you a few clues to what your system is really doing.

June 19, 201313 yr It doesn't necessarily have to be the motherboard - it could be that the PSU has died, or at least died enough that it can't power everything in the system (I've had that happen a few times before. Found out the expensive way first time round, learnt my lesson next time it happened )
June 19, 201313 yr Author Oddly, it seems that the failure point is the expansion slots. It seems that anything plugged into an expansion slot is not working. I know the monitor is fine because my server is sharing the monitor via a KVM with another box. Switching to the other machine lights the monitor. Also, all the lights on the switch port are off as if there is no cable plugged in. If I move the cable to the onboard nic the switch port light up. Unfortunately, the onboard nic is a realtek so I still have no network. Any recommendations for a new motherboard?
June 19, 201313 yr Any recommendations for a new motherboard? Difficult to answer that without knowing ... (a) How many SATA ports do you need for it? (b) Do you want to reuse your existing CPU and memory? © What add-in cards does it need to support? etc. In general, if it's time for a new motherboard, you should probably go with a complete motherboard/CPU/memory combo (memory may not be needed if your old board uses DDR3)
