July 18, 201312 yr Author How do I know if my Parity drive has actually written the data required in case of a drive failure?
July 18, 201312 yr When you first Start the array after assigning a parity drive, it will do a parity sync ... which will initialize the parity drive with the appropriate parity bits for the entire array (this takes many hours). Once that's done, the array is "protected" (i.e. fault-tolerant). It's a good idea to do an initial parity check at that point, to confirm everything went okay. After that, a parity check about once/month is a good "maintenance" operation -- to confirm all is still well
July 18, 201312 yr Author Thanks... I just started the Paritycheck... 1953509 minutes. It is gonna take a long long long time.
July 18, 201312 yr Thanks... I just started the Paritycheck... 1953509 minutes. It is gonna take a long long long time. I think you're misinterpreting what it's showing you -- that's the number of MBytes it has to check, NOT the time it's going to take
July 29, 201312 yr Author Thanks for all the help... I upgraded my license after everything was up and running. I really like the way it performs. I just need to see if I can shut off the case fans when the NAS is idle. Not sure if my SuperMicro MB supports it or not though.
