July 15, 201312 yr Has this ever been talked about before? I can't believe it hasn't. How about a script that would essentially... 1. Backup current bzroot and bzimage files (i.e. bzroot --> bzroot.RC16c) 2. wget the latest unraid AIO 3. Extract/overwrite bzroot and bzimage 4. Cleanup...delete the downloaded archive 4. Ask user if they would like to stop the array and initiate a reboot Honestly, #4 can be left as a manual step. I'm not sure that this functionality could ever make its way into production unRAID but it would be nice to have. Thoughts? John John
July 15, 201312 yr This will go a long way to make unRaid available to the masses who are not the techie types. There are few of us here who follow unRaid in the forums, but the general public just wants to buy something that works. I see this as a roadblock for Tom's prebuilt systems getting general acceptance. It needs to be iSimple. Automatic updates are a feature that when checked will give unRaid more positive press. The disadvantage of this is that you can't just update things instantly without there being some downsides. Updates can break things too.... But for a bog standard unRaid, it shouldn't be an issue. I have updated to every v5 beta and RC without issue, and I have a bunch of addons running.
July 15, 201312 yr Hardly seems worth the effort if the official releases are a couple of years apart.....
July 15, 201312 yr Depends upon if you are looking at this for the masses or the techies. You would probably want a checkbox or some other hoops to jump thru for any beta/RC updates. But for FINALS, it would be a good idea for the "masses"
July 15, 201312 yr But for FINALS, it would be a good idea for the "masses" This is the group of people unRaid doesn't cater to at present. Before unRaid can break out of cult status, it needs cool hardware, automatic updates, and an app store. (pick any 2 <grin> ) You should be able to look at a Drobo and an unRaid solution and buy the unRaid because it looks better. Think i-Simple
