Report Pending Sectors with a new color icon in main display

Featured Replies

Since emhttp is using smartctl to grab the temperature, perhaps the code could be modified to also look at the pending sector count.

Any pending sectors are a ticking timebomb. It would be prudent to report these with a new color in the main display or even change the icon to a bomb (grin... a lil bit of funny for a second).

The other string that should be considered is FAILING_NOW

It would be cool if there were an externally loadable custom configurable table.

There may be other attributes to grow with but these two items in my mind seem to be prominent.

Drives are getting larger, the chances of a bad sector are higher and people need to know when they are dealing with a situation that could arise and cause them to fail during a rebuild.

I've noticed over the past few weeks, many people reporting unRAID issues have drives with pending sectors. It's crucial to make this attribute and FAILING attributes visible somehow.

Really like the idea ! +1

Definitely a great idea.    Since the SMART data's already being retrieved, it makes sense to look at the key elements ... and WeeboTech hit the nail on the head with the two he suggested.    No need to turn the main page into a major diagnostic tool ... but certainly a distinctive icon or stand-out colored warning that lets you know you should look at the details is a GREAT idea !!

What about a small icon for each hdd (like current browse icons) that would allow to show in another page all smart values for that hdd, with problematic ones highlighted in red for example, and also the small icon on main page would change color to alert of some "less good" values, then user would easily spot it and click to see what's the problem, details... without bloating main page.

Most other NAS units do this. You click on the drive it shows all smart values. It's sorely needed for unRAID.

At the very least, there is already an icon on the front page depicting the condition of the drive.

Green,Blue,Orange,Red.... Perhaps another color.

Yellow showing there are smart values that the user should be cautioned about.  no bloat. Just a different color.

I'm sure when 5.0 gets out, there will be allot of pending updates.

This one is needed.

I.E.  Something to show us a cautionary condition of the health before the drive fails.

Since smartctl is already used to grab the temperature, I'm sure other data in the pipe could be used to determine a cautionary health condition.

Yellow [Perhaps a BRIGHT yellow  :) ]  would be an excellent choice.  But regardless of the color, it'd be really nice if simply clicking on the color ball would bring up the SMART data.    Not a bad idea to glance at that every once-in-a-while, without waiting until the status turns "cautionary" (e.g. Yellow).

Also like the idea of the yellow ball, clickable to see all smart values, then it can be added with minimal changes and no bloating.

From what I remember, if you click on the drive, it brings up another menu.

I would think the smart values should be displayed there along with other drive options.

I.E. submit a smartctl test,

I thought on it before, but that page with disk share security settings/permissions... I think adding smart values there, for eg. on top on that page, would maybe make it bloated... needing to scroll to see permission settings... it could be annoying when adjusting it for multiple disks, etc... you see what I mean...

Just clicking on the ball (that is currently not a link), as garycase pointed, to get it on a new page would be a best option IMO and would make sense since we are clicking the ball that shows status to see status details.
