Inimical
If for some reason ESXi fails\Datastore becomes unusable - will I be able to recover my unRAID configuration? I'm assuming due to raw mappings this shouldn't be an issue, but need clarification. Thanks. Quote Link to comment
garycase
As long as you're using passthrough controllers, the disks are the same regardless of whether you're using them through ESXi or via a "bare metal" boot ... so yes, there's no problem recovering your configuration. Quote Link to comment
sureguy
In addition to what garycase said, booting unraid rather than esxi should be as simple as switching your boot device in the bios Sent from a phone, sorry for any typos Quote Link to comment
guitarlp
In addition to what garycase said, booting unraid rather than esxi should be as simple as switching your boot device in the bios Sent from a phone, sorry for any typos Yep, I did this yesterday to test if the ESXi layer was causing issues with my unRAID shares. Booted into the BIOS and changed the flash boot device from ESXi to unRAID, booted, and everything was up and running like normal. Once finished, went back to the BIOS, switched back to the ESXi flash device, and booted back into ESXi. unRAID came back online like normal again. That's one of the big pluses for ESXi. If you have a problem with it, you can always boot bare metal into unRAID to access that data. Quote Link to comment
