Tim Timmens
1st disk has finished pre-clear. 28hrs 45mins! 0 sectors were re-allocated at any stage. Thus I presume my HDD is fine for use Quote Link to comment
garycase
Sounds like it's fine. Take a look at the SMART report to confirm there aren't any other questionable parameters (post it here if you're not sure) ... but if everything else is all zeroes you're almost certainly fine. Tim Timmens
Quick question, How do I get the SMART report up? Thanks Quote Link to comment
garycase
The pre-clear utility writes 3 files to a folder on your flash drive called preclear_reports. The 3 files are preclear_start, preclear_rpt, and preclear_finish ... with the drive label appended to each. The preclear_finish file will have the final SMART report for the drive. Tim Timmens
Cool, so I basically wait for the other pre-clear to finish. Shut down the server. After which I connect the USB to a PC and get the results? Thanks Quote Link to comment
garycase
No need to wait for the pre-clear to finish or to shut down the server. Just go to \\Tower\flash from your PC and you can simply copy the files over your network. You can get the first set now; and the 2nd set when the other pre-clear finishes. Quote Link to comment
Tim Timmens
hmm, I can access tower by the IP. But when I add /flash (i also tried \flash) nothing loads up. Sorry you are dealing with an noob! Quote Link to comment
Tim Timmens
Oo I worked it out.. clicked o the flash device shown.. Quote Link to comment
garycase
Go to the Web GUI with a browser [ //Tower ], then click on Flash ... and be sure it's being exported. You should be able to see Flash even with the array stopped. Quote Link to comment
Tim Timmens
I think I have attached my report for the first disk. What should I be looking at so I know for future disks. Thanks Quote Link to comment
garycase
You attached a very tiny graphic -- definitely NOT a SMART report Do this: (1) Copy the 3 reports for the drive that finished the pre-clear already to folder in your PC (perhaps "SmartReports"). (2) Right-click on each of those files and rename them with a .DOC extension (so they'll open in Word or -- if you don't have it -- WordPad). You could also use TXT, but Word/Wordpad will format them better. (3) Attach the .DOC file with the final SMART report to your next post Quote Link to comment
Tim Timmens
I believe this is correct now. I just hope the disk is fine! preclear_start_WD-WMC4N0538017_2013-11-26.doc preclear_rpt_WD-WMC4N0538017_2013-11-26.doc preclear_finish_WD-WMC4N0538017_2013-11-26.doc Quote Link to comment
garycase
The disk is excellent. There are no parameters of any concern at all. No reallocated sectors; no pending reallocations; no values different than their initial 100 or 200 (depends on the parameter) except those that reflect measurements (e.g. temperature, spin-up time, etc.). In short -- an essentially "perfect" report Quote Link to comment
Tim Timmens
That's great. I will follow what you just compared for the next drive. Thanks Btw, do you use unRAID for media server proposes? This in my intention, just wondering if you do what media player you used? Quote Link to comment
garycase
I have a pair of UnRAID servers (and a couple of test servers as well). My primary one is for media ... but it's just a media file server -- none of the add-ons many others like to use (Plex, etc.). I play the collection via Windows Media Player or PowerDVD, depending on which system I'm watching it on. My other server is just for backups of all the PC's in the house and assorted other stuff. Both servers are fully backed up. Quote Link to comment
cwhite3
Btw, do you use unRAID for media server proposes? This in my intention, just wondering if you do what media player you used? Tim, I haven't read through your entire post but I hope it is going well. I have just started my first build. As for the media player have you looked at Plex? It is an add on to unRaid. It has apps for everything and looks pretty straight forward. The interface looks nice and clean. Quote Link to comment
dirtysanchez
Btw, do you use unRAID for media server proposes? This in my intention, just wondering if you do what media player you used? I run Plex on my unRaid. For media players I have a number of different devices, including Rokus (Roku 1 and Roku 2, will be buying a Roku 3 soon), Samsung Smart TV w/ native Plex app, Plex Home Theater on PC's/Macs, iPads, iPhones, etc. That's the great thing about Plex, there are numerous Plex clients. If there's a piece of hardware out there that can stream, there's probably a Plex client for it. I'm particularly partial to the native client for Samsung Smart TV's as well as the Rokus, they work flawlessly. Quote Link to comment
Tim Timmens
My media player cannot access the movies on the server. I use a dune d1 media player. Disk SMB settings: Export: Yes (hidden) Security: public Shares settings: Export: yes Security: public What could I be doing wrong? Thanks Quote Link to comment
dirtysanchez
I have no eperience with a Dune media player. That said, your share settings look corect and should work. I assume you are trying to connect to the user share and not the disk share? Can the Dune "see" the share? Don't know what type of functionality is in the Dune, but can you ping the server from the Dune? Can the Dune resolve the hostname of the server? Have you attempted to connect via IP instead of hostname? Quote Link to comment
Tim Timmens
I can see Tower but not the movies share. I don't know how to ping My WD nas works fine, just this is an issue! Quote Link to comment
dirtysanchez
Sorry, in your original post I thought the disk settings you mentioned were for disk shares, not the user share. Since the share is hidden you will either need to map to it directly through the full name (i.e. \\tower\sharename), or you will need to set it to "Yes". Because the share is hidden you can not browse to it. Quote Link to comment
Tim Timmens
I have set it to yes, still the problem is not cured Quote Link to comment
dirtysanchez
I took a quick look at the Dune D1 manual. Do you have the share type set to SMB? Also, have you tried specifying the server by IP address instead of hostname? I have no idea if the Dune can resolve hostnames or not, but in the manual the server was specified by IP address and not by hostname. Quote Link to comment
Tim Timmens
I am trying to upgrade unRIAD to 5.0.4 hoping it may solve my problem. On the upgrade guide it says to copy over the 'bzimage' bzroot' & 'readme.txt' also 'memtest' if you want. I accessed the flash on my web browser and copied over the items by dragging it but this does not work as web browser says web page not found. How do I upgrade? Quote Link to comment
Tim Timmens
okay, ignore me I have managed the upgrade! WOW some success!! Quote Link to comment
