December 12, 201312 yr OK, I got my first unRAID server up and running. I'm now beginning to transfer my media from my other computer to the new unRAID server. The transfer speeds are HORRIBLE!!! I"m not sure if this is normal but I can transfer files across my network via wi fi faster then this. To start off my unRAID server is on a hard line connected to my router. The network is a gig network and I actually get close to that when I transfer files from one windows computer to another. However transferring my media files from my Windows pc to the unRAID server I'm currently getting 2.00 MB/s to 2.50MB/s on average. Is this expected are is there something wrong here? At this rate it will take weeks to transfer close to 11TB of data across the network to this server.
December 12, 201312 yr is the parity checking / building parity running? That will slow down the write speed a lot
December 12, 201312 yr Author No, that is not normal. How about some additional info like system specs? Are you wanting my unRAID server system specs? If so here's what my unRAID has: Intel i3 4130 CPU ASRock Fatal1ty Z87 Professional LGA 1150 Intel Z87 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX 16GB Corsiar 1600MHz RAM OCZ ZT 650W Power Supply 1 - Seagate 4TB HDD (Parity) 2 - Toshiba 3TB HDD (unRAID ARRAY) I have a Netgear Gigabit router which I now with everything else is working speed wise as it should. is the parity checking / building parity running? That will slow down the write speed a lot No, That has all been completed already. Parity has also been manually checked yesterday. Everything should be good to go and is online and ready.
December 12, 201312 yr Attach a syslog that includes a period of slow performance. Note the time of the transfer.
December 12, 201312 yr Author Attach a syslog that includes a period of slow performance. Note the time of the transfer. Besides me logging into telenet after the transfer began, There is no other reported activity since the early hours of the morning when it renewed the IP address with my router.

December 12, 201312 yr Author what about safe mode? did u try that? Here's a dumb question, How do you shut this thing down. I have yet to do that since building and setting up? Just tried transferring another file and now it's even slower, around 1.00MB/s and dropping below that. I transferred the same file from my PC to another Windows PC just to test the router and it sent it there at 93.8 MB/s. So it's not the router I do believe, Has to be that server.
December 12, 201312 yr Use only the web GUI to shutdown. Show the output of "ifconfig". Also show "ethtool eth0" and attach the syslog.
December 13, 201312 yr Author OK, I figured out how to shut the server down and reboot it. Now my desktop can't see it at all on the network. Which is very odd considering if I go to my laptop which is on the network via wifi it sees the server just fine and I can get into all the folders and what not. Why won't my desktop see the server?

Which is very odd considering if I go to my laptop which is on the network via wifi it sees the server just fine and I can get into all the folders and what not. Why won't my desktop see the server? How are you trying to access it via the desktop? Have you tried to access it via IP instead of host name? Can you ping it? EDIT: also set unRaid to be the local master browser. Settings -> SMB -> Local Master -> Yes
December 13, 201312 yr and ensure workgroups are the same, case sensitive as well. try a different port on the router, different cable between router/server as well.
December 13, 201312 yr Author I'm trying to transfer files from my desktop to my unRAID server. Before I could get on my desktop click on "Start", "Computer" and "Network". This is what I've always done to see the other computers in my homegroup. The unRAID server was there before and could be seen on the network, Now it's not there. However, If I go to my laptop and go to start, computer, and network the "Tower" which is my unRAID server shows there. I can click on it and open up the HDD's in the array. I however can no longer see it with my desktop. I"ve tried rebooting the unRAID server again, restarting the router, restarted my desktop and nothing. I can't even see my other 2 laptops from my desktop now which I could before as well. Any suggestions, I don't know shit about networks. I've done everything I can think of.
December 13, 201312 yr Set local master to yes on unRaid and make sure the workgroup names match between unRaid and your Windows machines (case sensitive). Shut all your Windows machines down and leave them off for at least 10 minutes. Turn your desktop back on and give it a few minutes then check to see if tower shows up in windows network.
December 13, 201312 yr Author press "windows key+r" type "\\tower" and hit enter. If I do this from my desktop I get a box with a red X that says the follwing: \\tower The specified network name is no longer available.

Sorry I don't have any idea what your talking about regarding the local master thing. I can see the unRAID server just fine on my 2 laptops, Can access the folders via "Network" in my computer. Not sure that makes a difference. I can log into the unRAID server from desktop using tower:8080 like I could before, I just can't see it to transfer files anymore.
December 13, 201312 yr Author what is the IP address of the server? is it set to static or dynamic? The router sets the IP as I have no idea how to set a constant IP address.
December 13, 201312 yr ok, open your browser. type "tower" and hit enter. log in if asked. settings > network settings >
December 13, 201312 yr Author ok, open your browser. type "tower" and hit enter. log in if asked. settings > network settings > I'm assuming you want the IP address? It's 192.168.1.3, Before I shutdown the unRAID server for reboot it was 192.168.1.11 if that helps. I also see in the settings the "Workgroup" thing I believe someone else asked about. Is that what needs to match my actual network "Home Group" name??
December 13, 201312 yr Do you have multiple routers on your LAN? There's one router connected to your IP provider ( via DSL, or Cable Modem, or FIOS). Do you have other routers?
