rikdegraaff
Hi all, I've just placed a 3TB hard disk in my server. The server recognized that disk perfectly. One thing: I can't get my array back spun up. I've selected my new HDD and it became blue. Then I clicked "Clear", and "Yes I want to do this". He was clearing that hard disk, and finally left me with a not starting array. So what am I doing wrong?? See my screenshot and syslog for more info. I hope you'll guys can help me, Greetings, Rik PS. For syslog (approx. 130MB) check: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/14268052/syslog-2014-01-26.txt Quote Link to comment
dgaschk
Disk 3 stopped communicating with the server. Check the cables to disk3 making sure that you don't loosen any other connections. Reboot the sever and try again. The server will be offline for the duration of the clearing process. Pre-cearing the disk will avoid this downtime. Quote Link to comment
rikdegraaff
I going to check my cables. Thank you for the tip, and you'll hear from me later. EDIT:I've reconnected my hdd. Then I clicked on the Clear-button. So he is now clearing... How long should that take?? It's a 3TB disk. Quote Link to comment

A better approach would be to preclear (search for the utility) the disk first before adding it to the array. Quote Link to comment
rikdegraaff
But do I everything good? Because he is now at "Clearing, 19% complete... " Quote Link to comment

Joe L.
I going to check my cables. Thank you for the tip, and you'll hear from me later. EDIT:I've reconnected my hdd. Then I clicked on the Clear-button. So he is now clearing... How long should that take?? It's a 3TB disk. most disks can be written to at an average of 100MB/s In 10 seconds you will write 1GB. In 1 minute therefore, you will write 6GB. You have a 3000GB disk. ( 3 TB ) 3000 / 6 = 500 minutes. 500 minutes = 8.33 hours. be patient... Joe L. Quote Link to comment
rikdegraaff
Thanks for the math, Joe. I'm now at 96 percent... Still not sure if it is going well. Quote Link to comment

bonienl
And now this... Cannot select my disk... The reported size is incorrect, I would reboot the system and see if a proper recognition is done (otherwise suspect loose cabling). Quote Link to comment
rikdegraaff
Well bonienl there is no size given. Is says only "(sde) 2930266584"... What's this? EDIT: After reboot -> error3.jpg Quote Link to comment

EDIT: After reboot -> error3.jpg That number is the size ... but bigger than should be (ends on 84 instead of 32) Can you include a copy of your syslog file, so technical people here can look into it. Can I shut the server down in meantime? The corruption occured due to an improper shutdown of the system earlier, likely can be prepared. People on this forum are very helpful and usually won't take long to get support. Yes you can shutdown the server. Quote Link to comment
rikdegraaff
Okay, then I will wait for a reply from the experts. I shutdown the server for now... I hope to hear from them soon, Rik Quote Link to comment

What is the issue? The issue is that I cannot get my new 3TB hard drive in to my existing array... I can choose it, then the ball turns blue. I do a Clear, and then you'll see this (look at the attachment!). I cannot start my array... Greetings, Rik Quote Link to comment

rikdegraaff
I've just powered my server up. Getting the following screen. With 3 greens and 1 blue. What must I do next? Clicking on "Clear"? Quote Link to comment
Joe L.
check the "yes, I wan't to do this" checkbox and then click on the "clear" button. If you did not pre-clear the disk, the server will then be off-line for 8-10 hours (possibly more) while the disk is cleared by unRAID. Quote Link to comment

If I clear this drive, it only takes 1 - 1,5 hours to clear. And then I get in the drives select menu (little drop down at disk3) "(sde) 2930266584". And not my normal "WDC_WD30EZRX-00SPEB0_WD-WCC4E0300077 (sde) 2930266532". To clarify it: After clearing I get picture error3.jpg. So I cannot choose my disk after clearing... I have a appointment at 11AM (CET) (10AM GMT). So I'm setting my server now on Clearing, and when I am back, I'll post my results. Kind Regards, Rik Quote Link to comment
