February 23, 201412 yr Author Tried that already - replaced it a couple of nights ago... I will go and get another right now as I have dozens and see if the GUI comes back - will report back in a little while.
February 23, 201412 yr Try connecting the server directly to the PC. A crossover cable is not needed, use a regular CAT-6 cable. Enable Internet Sharing on the PC and then do some testing by making several large transfers and then looking at ifconfig.
February 23, 201412 yr Author OK - I have set it up on my laptop... but what's the IP address as there is no DHCP server now? I cant login via GUI, when its on the main network, to set a static IP address and from memory I think UnRAID is set to static 192.168.76.100 - but I have connected it using a straight through cat5e cable (not crossover as per your instructions) and it isn't visible as far as I can see?
February 23, 201412 yr Author OK - my bad I set a static IP on the laptop - and can now telnet to the UnRAID server - but have no GUI access... also when I try to access shares I only see FLASH as the array was reset using initconfig... so at the moment I cant log in to re assign disks!! I also still get a 20-30 second delay for login prompt when I telnet to unit.
February 23, 201412 yr Author Just rebooted it and now can log in to the GUI from laptop... will shuffle a few hundred Gbs from UnRAID to laptop and then post ifconfig again.
February 24, 201412 yr Author OK... Copied about 290Gb from the UnRAID server to my laptop then copied it back. Ifconfig attached
February 24, 201412 yr ifconfig has zero errors. The switch or router, maybe only one port, is bad. Or the cable was bad.
February 24, 201412 yr Author I saw that too... still seems very strange that it takes 20-30 secs for the login prompt to appear when you telnet in, especially as my original server presents the prompt immediately with no delay - also the Web GUI stops working and wont work again until the server is rebooted! I am thinking for peace of mind I may just add the 3Tb disks to the array on my old server to get the space increase and get rid of the HP Microserver as it just doesnt seem stable. I might install 4.7 on the new server as I am using this on the original one, before abandoning the project, and try doing the data transfer again - just to see if its any more reliable! A PCI-Express NIC might be in order too, to rule out driver issues with the integrated NIC. I work in IT and the switch is a nearly new 24 port gigabit switch - and I did switch the cable and port when it was giving problems... just in case, so I am confident that this isn't the cause. Thanks for helping - I'll leave this as UNSOLVED until I have tried the above. I'd be keen to hear from any other HP Microserver users to see what version of UnRAID they are using and any issues they have had!
February 25, 201412 yr Author So... I made some progress - I have decided to try 6 beta 3, as for me I cant be any worse off... The unit has stayed on the network without falling off and the GUI and telnet are all working fine. Rather than using Rsync, I have copied from the original UnRaid servers shares to the new machines shares and so far 1.4Tb has copied without stalling - which is far better than I ever got with 5.0.5. Also (according to the windows "copying" screen) I seem to be getting about 30MB/s. So I will leave it for the next couple of days and see how we go :-)
