August 16, 201411 yr Author i've searched the log files but cant find anything. its strange because if i put the .12 file or earlier in, reboot, it starts fine. if i try to put the .13 or .14 file in and reboot it wont start. Try backing up then deleting the preferences.XML file in the config folder then see if it starts.
August 16, 201411 yr i've tried deleting the entire plex directory. still no go with the newer ones Can you provide a sys log after a reboot? Did you delete your original plex install file in the /boot/extra folder when you migrated to the new plugin? Note: I have been using PhAzE's plex plugin for the past several releases and have upgraded each time from the plugin settings page without issues.
August 16, 201411 yr i only see 2 lines in the syslog that have anything to do with plex Aug 15 21:03:12 Batserver sudo: root : TTY=console ; PWD=/ ; USER=nobody ; COMMAND=/bin/bash -c . /boot/config/plugins/plexmediaserver/startcfg.sh; nohup /usr/local/plexmediaserver/"Plex Media Server" > /dev/null 2>$stuff$1 $stuff$ Aug 15 21:03:28 Batserver sudo: root : TTY=console ; PWD=/usr/local/emhttp ; USER=nobody ; COMMAND=/bin/bash -c . /boot/config/plugins/plexmediaserver/startcfg.sh; /usr/local/plexmediaserver/"Plex Media Server" --version

With that in mind, try the following: - delete any Plex files in your USB/extras folder, this folder isn't used by my plugin - delete the folder called "plexmediaserver" on your USB/config/plugins folder - delete the install file from USB/packages - delete the files from your plex install directory not the config directory though - reboot My plugin will redownload the install file, and recreate the plugin plexmediaserver folder. When you go to the GUI, you will need to enter the folders again for library and config directories, set plugin to enable, and hit apply.
August 16, 201411 yr Author If that doesn't work you likely have installed a plugin that is conflicting. I would then delete all files from your packages folder (plugins will redownload then upon reboot), and rename your extras folder to a temp name so nothing in there installs, and then reboot for a fresh clean boot.

Random find, but if I use my IP instead of my machine name, settings save! but for some reason doesn't save any settings What version of unraid are you using? I may have asked that before. Sometimes unraids DNS doesn't always seem to work I've noticed, I think the mere versions have an option to become DNS matter of the network which you could turn on, but that may just be unraid 6. Sounds like a DNS problem from that info.
August 16, 201411 yr I have tried deleting everything Plex and all packages. Still no luck with the 2 newest versions. I did notice though it doesn't seem to be installing correctly because on the plugin settings screen it shows unknown version and always wants to update.

August 16, 201411 yr Author Yes. I have it installed ingenues extra packages tab trends to install some stuff that brakes some apps. For example, GCC and G++ are two files that break the ability to unzip with AR. I usually get users to go through the packages and remove at least those two since they are only used for compiling programs which shouldn't be done on unraid anyways. The fact you said it shows version unknown tells me it won't even start up enough to print the version number to console. Go through the unmenu packages tab and remove any packages you don't use and reboot. Unfortunately with this kind of problem, it's extremely hard to troubleshoot.
August 16, 201411 yr Just did a fresh install of unraid. still wont start. same "Installed Version: couldn't determine the Plex Media Server version" shown. will upload syslog in a few minutes.
August 17, 201411 yr Author syslog Thanks, I had a look and nothing seems out if the ordinary. Also, I just fired up a fresh VM with unraid 5.05 and only the Plex plugin and it worked right away. Try setting your install directory to the default: /usr/local/plexmediaserver Config directory to: /usr/local/plexmediaserver/config Temp directory to: /tmp/Plex And run as user to nobody. Are you able to get it to start with those default settings? After set to the default directories, log in to the console and try the following command all in one line: sudo -H -u nobody /bin/bash -c '. /boot/config/plugins/plexmediaserver/startcfg.sh; /usr/local/plexmediaserver/"Plex Media Server" --version' It should print the version of plex installed or hopefully show an error. If you see the version, it works, if you see the error, post it here. if you are unsure, do the same line again but take out the --version (remember to leave the ' at the end though). This will launch the program but not hide the console messages or run the app in background. Your cursor will just sit there while it launches, press CTRL-C to kill the process and return to your prompt. Then check the log file at: /usr/local/plexmediaserver/config/Plex Media Server/Logs/Plex Media Server.log It may help to clear the log directory before running it so you get fresh logs. Let me know if you get it working with this, or if the logs show any errors.

August 17, 201411 yr /usr/local/plexmediaserver/config/Plex Media Server/ i have no "plex media server" directory in that path. there is a file with that name. when i run it i get Plex Media Server: error while loading shared libraries: libboost_system.so.1.50.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory my library dir is at /mnt/disk1/apps/plex my temp is at /mnt/disk1/apps/plex/temp
August 17, 201411 yr Author That "illigal instruction" error usually means the CPU encountered a problem in the binary that it couldn't run. Just to confirm, your running unraid 5.0.5 and using the 32 bit version of my plugin correct? The region you see the liboost.lib error when you run the Plex binary directly is that you need to run the startcfg.sh script prior / at the same time as the binary is run since it sets up the system environment needed for Plex to find its libraries.
August 17, 201411 yr Author I've been reading on that error. I'm starting to think that Plex is now compiling their binary using a later system architecture that what your hardware supports. What motherboard are you using? If it's old, you may want to pay on the Plex forum to see if the recently made changes that would affect older hardware at the binary level. For example, if your motherboard doesn't support SSE 2.0 and Plex compiles with that as a mandatory option, you would see this type of error.
August 17, 201411 yr yes i am using older hardware. i have a asus a7n8x deluxe mobo with a athlon xp 2400+ perhaps thats why i can use versions up to .12 but none above.

I had that same PC back in the day before I got a dual core. Then I got an i7 so I used my disk core for my unraid build. My old a7n8x is sitting on the floor next to my unraid server. Anyways, I'm afraid that is quite possibly the problem.
