May 19, 201412 yr Hey guys a few questions: 1) i built my system awhile back and have only 2 drives, i thought it would mirror one HD so in case a HD crashes the other will back up data on the new HD or it would split the data between 2 drives for faster storage. 2) I was looking for an external drive to image my HD on my PC in case in crashes buy i was wondering if i can do it with my UnRiad server? 3) i had internet connection downrange and i couldn't access my UnRaid server, its plugged into my wifi hub and then my wifi hub is connected (wired to my PC)
May 19, 201412 yr 1) Not how it works. You may want to read up on how unraid works, but basically you can have multiple data drives protected with a parity drive. Your parity drive must be at a minimum the same size as the largest drive in your array. It's not mirrored. If you need to know more about parity, check this out: http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/FAQ#How_does_parity_work.3F 2) If you can use an imaging program that will use mapped drives, then you can certainly do that. Then you would just run the app and create the image on a mapped drive. 3) Are you trying to access your unraid server from the internet? First off, this really isn't recommended as unraid is not really secure. If you do want to do something along those lines you would need to do some port translation on your router (not very safe) or use VPN to connect to your unraid (probably the best method).
May 19, 201412 yr Author Since my system is already set up can i add a parity drive ? I access chrome or internet explorer to log in and the go to my network places to load and unload, i was not aware there was another way to log in ?
May 19, 201412 yr Since my system is already set up can i add a parity drive ? No problem - just add it via the GUI.

Regarding adding a parity drive, pretty easy to find info on that. Google should give a link to the configuration tutorial.
May 19, 201412 yr Author What i meant was i power up the server, use IE or Chrome and type //tower which then pops up for a user name and password...but when internet is down it wont even get into //tower

I would expect your home network to allow devices connected to it to be able to communicate with each other regardless of the state of your link to the internet.
