Problem with Random Reboots [Solved]

Featured Replies

I've got a random reboot issue.

Not sure where it's coming from. I really need those logs to survive a reboot.

Here's the specs

unRaid 5.0.5

Biostar NM70 mobo with onboard Celeron [email protected]

4gb DDR3 1333

3x Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 (AF) Model: ST500DM002-1BD142 500g 1 as parity.

This machine was previously a router that had uptime only inturruped by power outages.

Any thoughts?

Power supply specs?

Heat sink and fan failure?

Some here should pipe up to show you how to run a tail on your logout in the mean time do a search.  I'm mobile so not much help with that.

PSU was plenty. 400W single rail running 3 drives.

I did find the issue.

Couchpotato was causing some issues (somehow) when the array tried to initialize.

Deleted the plg and all related files and started fresh, now were purring along.

Nope... she went purring along for 4 hours until I went to peek at the uptime and noticed it restarted...

Gonna hit memtest86 overnight and make sure it's stable before jumping to anymore conclusions.

Any way to constantly output log info to a file?

Before you kick of a memtest, I would power everything down and try reseating the memory and all cards/cables.

Passed memtest with flying colors.

I've been looking around the internet and have seen some things about the C6 sleep state causing issues with this board in Linuxland.

Open up the case.  Check to be sure that the CPU fan is running and that the CPU heat sink is not plugged up with dust and dirt.  Also a good time to clear all of the other dirt out the air inlets and case fans.

Not an overheating problem.

It's an issue with the NM70 Chipset and Linux.

"i915.i915_enable_rc6=1 - RC6 was enabled by default for a while, but then it ended up being too buggy for some hardware configuration so it had to be disabled. For affected systems on the current code-base, enabling RC6 can cause GPU hangs. The Intel RC6 feature allows the GPU to enter a lower power state when the GPU is idling."

I switched the RC6 setting in the BIOS to OFF.

Been up over 30 hours without issue.

Guess that was the trouble.
