September 14, 201411 yr New to Un-Raid and I have just acquired a Xyratex HS-1235E from a friend. Anyone know if Un-Raid will work with it?
September 14, 201411 yr Try out the free version and let us know if it works. All you need to test it out is a USB flash drive, so nothing lost if it doesn't work.
September 14, 201411 yr Author That's what I plan on doing if nobody has done it already. Figured I might as well not waste my time if someone has tried it already and the answer is "no". I don't mind being the guinea pig.
September 14, 201411 yr Author The SAN came with 2GB RAM. What is the minimum recommended for UnRaid? My SAN has 12x 1TB drives.
September 14, 201411 yr The SAN came with 2GB RAM. What is the minimum recommended for UnRaid? My SAN has 12x 1TB drives. Most people have 4gb, but if you do not start to run plugins but only use the NAS, 2gb will be enough.
September 14, 201411 yr The SAN came with 2GB RAM. What is the minimum recommended for UnRaid? My SAN has 12x 1TB drives. I have heard of those who successfully run the basic NAS capability on 512MB. Of course you can no longer systems that are that constrained
September 14, 201411 yr Author Thanks for the replies. As long as the price for RAM on this beast isn't insane I plan on upgrading it to at LEAST 8GB. MY current NAS is running OpenFiler and only has 2GB of RAM and it runs great.
September 14, 201411 yr I started with 2GB when was sure I wasen't going to use plugins... Then I wanted to use plugins so I upgraded to 8GB... Then I wanted to use virtual machines and I currently have 16GB... Moral of the story, if you are 100% sure it will only be used as a NAS then 2GB will be just fine but if you even sort of think plugins or VM's would be nice to mess with in the future, get ALL the ram you can!!
September 14, 201411 yr Author Thanks. I plan on using some plugins....specifically PLEX. I will not use VM's. I have a Windows Server box already for that. Thanks.
