UnRaid unconnectable after 12-24 hours

Featured Replies

So the other day I had troubles connecting to UnRaid so I restarted the server. IT all works fine except after 12-24 hours the server is then unreachable. It cannot be connected through telnet it just shows the following (does not ask for login etc):

Last login: Sat Oct  4 05:57:27 on console
Mitchs-Mac-Pro:~ Mitch$ telnet box
Trying 192.168.1.77...
Connected to box.
Escape character is '^]'.

This has happened a few times, if I reset the server it all works fine up until a certain time after it has been restarted in which it is unreachable again.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I am running 5.0-rc5. This  has all happened once I realised my drives were close to full (roughly 40gb free each drive)

Leave the log window open until it crashes again.

Ok so it crashed over night. The server is still on but obviously no connection. Here is the log file from telnet:

logfile.txt

1. Run memtest overnight. 2. Check for BIOS and firmware updates. 3. See check disk file systems in my sig and run a check on all data and cache disks

Hi,

I finally had a chance to run memtest. it has been going for over 8 hours. How do I tell when it has finished? it says "pass complete no errors" however it is still running.

ok after 36 hours of memtest there were still no errors. Exited memtest and it booted fine, 24 hours later and it has crashed sometime in the last 12 or so hours.

Any ideas?

Could you capture a log file after a system restart? From the web GUI under the "System Utils" there's a link to the system log files. You might have to hit Escape to get it to stop refreshing. But the idea is to copy all the text and paste it into a file you can upload to the forms. A simple text file is best.

Having the start up log helps troubleshooting a lot. But also knowing what plugins or other add-ons you're using beyond a stock system helps.

You should consider updating to the current release of 5.0. But you'll want to make sure your data and data drives are in good shape.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I am running 5.0-rc5.

There were allot of release candidates, some of them even had issues with reiserfs and updating the superblock, thus possibly leading to loss of updates and/or corruption. Highly recommended you update to the latest version.

just realised i must have upgraded to 5.05 when it came out. its been running fine till recently

I did a quick read of the log file. It looks like you have a lot (to me) of plugins running and package installation is going through loops and loops. I don't use many of the plugins you do so my advice is to remove them all and bring each one back in until you get the problem again. That's slow and takes time, sorry.

One other thing to consider with cache-directories is to not load all your top level folders as is the default. I think  you should exclude folders you don't need ready access to. In my case I only cache the directories for TV Shows and Music since they are the most frequently accessed and I don't want to wait for them when using a media player.

Just to make it a bit easier to understand your configuration could you enumerate the plugins/add-ons you are using? Thanks!

That particular screen shot is a crash during some kind of network transfer.

That log is hard to follow. Looks to be in reverse and duplicated.

Here's the end.

So you might have an issue with the network port/cable/adapter or configuration.

I remember people having weird issues with some of the realtek drivers.

I can't say this is it and this is your problem, because there's no tell tale pointer. However there are an awful lot of plugins, even some of them get removed and re-added.
