CrashPlan - backup of shares and backup-dirs?

Hi,

Sorry for asking, but as a unRaid 5 user, I read on the limetech homepage that with unRaid 6 the CrashPlan can backup itself (to the cloud I guess) when running on the server?

Is there any differcence running CrashPlan on unRaid 5 vs 6?

Because when I did this on my server, I could not get it to backup the backup-files/dirs from my other computers, that landed on the unRaid server?

Or do I misunderstood something?

Or is the text here mean that when running a backup to a "friends computer" it also do a backup of the backup files/dirs?

Lastly, you may wish to use Crashplan to not only backup your unRAID system itself, but also to backup your multiple personal devices as well.  A common way users have set this up is to enable their various devices (laptops, PCs, mobile devices) to backup to their unRAID server locally, and then replicate that backup along with other data to an offsite location for the ultimate protection.

CrashPlan on 5 would be in a plugin and on 6 it would be in Docker, but the core functionality would be the same.

Now that you point it out, I think the description from that blog post is wrong.  You can have CrashPlan on your various devices backup to unRAID no problem, but CrashPlan running on unRAID will not replicate the backups elsewhere.

Can I back up my CrashPlan archives with CrashPlan?

No. CrashPlan excludes its own backup archives from the file selection. This is hard-coded and cannot be changed.

If you'd like your backup data stored at multiple locations, simply back up your files to multiple destinations.
